1/2 casino game.
Early in session. Playing my first hand.effective stack 200
Hero raises to 10 from early position with pocket 10's
2 callers
Flop is 10 9 8 rainbow
Hero decides not to slow play because of wet board and c bets 20.
Villain in early position with starting stack of only 100 goes all in
other player folds and it's on us.
I suspect villain might already have a straight but without thinking about it to long, I make the call.
I got lucky and hit an 8 on the turn to fill up.
Turns out villain had 7 6
I won the pot but did I make the right call or should I have folded in that spot?

Calling off 50bbs in that spot probably every time. If he has a straight, nh sir and on to the next one

What Bussie said. Definitely a call. Even if you put him on JQ with a backdoor flush draw you have 35% equity because of odds to hit boat/quads. If I read correctly you need to call 70 for a 140 pot so you are getting 2 to 1 (depends slightly on blinds, rake) but basically worst case scenario you are still at a slightly positive EV call. Give him some two pairs/straight draws/ pair+straight draw and you are way ahead

You need 80/230 equity to call it off or 35%. If he only ever has a straight its minimally -EV but he's way wider than that so it's a snap call.

you have to learn pot odds as some times even though you know you have the worst hand it pays to call or even move in.

You need to win 35% (80/230) of the time for it to be EV+
Against QJ, 76 only you have 35%
Against QJ, 76, 99, 88 you have 45%
Against QJ, 76, 88+ you have 59%

Call.

There is basically never a time you should be folding top set on the flop. Certainly not for under 100BB

Never laying down top set here. Never laying down bottom set here either fwiw. If he has it... he has it.
