$1-$3 game last night.

Villain (BB) has $297. Middle aged white male, on the larger end size-wise. This is his third hand at the table and I haven't seen him before. He limped one hand and folded to a flop bet, folded the other two.

Hero (Button) has just under $400. Mid 20's white male with headphones currently around the neck (no music playing). I folded pre-flop the only hands that Villain has seen.

Pre-Flop
Hero straddles on the button for $6
SB folds
Villain (BB) calls
MP calls
Cutoff calls
Hero checks with A8

I don't straddle that often, and I don't know if this is right. I'd rather this not be the focus of the thread.

Flop: 8 5 8 (pot $23 after rake)

Villain checks
MP checks
Cutoff bets $6
Hero raises to $20
Villain raises to $50
Cutoff folds
Hero ???

Villain has about $240 behind, pot is $97 after rake.

My raise is probably a tad small, but I'm more interested in hearing your response to the check/raise as played. If you're flatting here, how do you plan to respond to various turn cards / bets?

Dream situation.

We can play 25 hours and never see this.

Shove it and love it.

In spots like this, I always feel like telling my villain this...

Spoiler:

There are a few principles of poker I have come to understand in my years of grinding LLSNL.

Principle #1) No one, absolutely no one at LLSNL ever folds trips on the flop or turn (and rarely even on the river). It does not matter what their kicker is, it doesn't matter how face up your hand is for also having trips or better, they are just never ever folding

Principle #2) Once a fish shows strength, they are rarely ever folding. Most villains at LLSNL have an inelastic raising range meaning if they raise and you raise them back (especially if there is a draw on the board) they are rarely ever folding.

So, looking at the two above principles and this board texture and the action, this is an easy shove. Just shovel it and enjoy the pained look on your villain's face when he 100% knows he is beat but can't bring himself to fold his weaksauce 98o bs hand.

He will tank and proudly claim, "What do you got Q8, K8, A8..." then he will tank some more, show his 8 and say, "does this scare you? You on the flush draw? You got A8? You got K8 or A8 huh...." then after another minute he will say, "Okay I call"

Your hand holds up then he PROUDLY proclaims "I Knew It!!!" and he will pat himself on the back for being right.

With nut kicker and flush + straight draw on the board we are playing for 100bb stacks all day.

I think 4betting ai looks super strong and a worse 8 could fold

I'd reraise to 150, enticing him to shove. If he only flats, I'll bet 150 on turn, putting him all in.
