Hero-early 20's, somewhat aggressive image. Winner at $1-$2. Had shown a few bluffs after big bets.
Villain- somewhat loose, not a great player but not horrible either. Hadn't shown down too many hands

Villain had talked openly about wanting to take one from Hero very badly

Stacks- Hero - $450, Villain- covers

Hero is in late position with 43

2 limpers, Villain limps in middle position, Hero limps the cutoff. Dealer limps. Small blind calls $1, Big Blind checks.

Flop ($14) is 652

Checks around to hero. Hero checks. Button checks.

Turn ($14) is 7 Checks to Villain who bets $9. Hero raises to $38. Folds back to Villain who tank calls after asking why so much.

River ($90) is K Villain checks. Hero bets $75. Villain tank raises to $200.

Hero..?

I would probably fold pre.

You flop gin and check the flop? Start putting money into the pot asap.

Not so sure why you raised so much on turn but whatever.

Pretty sure this is a snap call if not a shove. If he has 89 or 84 then it is what it is but I think he does this with sets and two pair a lot.

You have an aggro image an check a flopped straight 6-ways? Horribad.

Now you have the idiot end and raise pot? meh.

And on a blank river your V-bet gets raised pot. Pretty obv fold without super reads, imo.

everyone thinks you're a bluffer? Why slowplay then? You've built a bluffy aggro image and are now holding the nuts. Bet!

Like stated bet flop, use that image. Now on the turn it seems like u might be raising so huge to make up for the flop check. Now you have the third nuts and are check raised on the river after you showed that you love ur hand. I'd say this is a sigh fold unless you really think he would ever do this with a set. You missed info and value not betting the flop.

You mentioned he did a mini speech on the turn "why so much" you must of mentioned that for a reason? You have any history with villain? Seems like that would be the deciding factor.

Bet $20 on the flop FFS. As played fold river, V is repping the nuts and that's it. How many times is V c/r a big bet on the river with a worse hand? Almost never.

Not betting the flop here is a goddamn travesty. Also, fold pre

No history, just today from what we'd seen of each other. Regretting not betting flop for sure. Part of the big raise was to make it seem bluffy because id done that before and partly to make up for missed value. On river it just seemed so hard for him to check a bigger straight when I could check behind sometimes.

Looking back, he had nothing in this spot but the nuts, he probably just calls with his sets/2 pairs. Should've thought about it for longer than 3 seconds and I would've come to the right conclusion.

Result: hero basically snap calls (regretted it immediately before he even showed his hand). Villain shows 89 for the nuts.

You both played it terribly. The point of playing this garbage hand in the first place is to win big pots from bad players. You don't build big pots by checking the flop.
