Flopped set, don't beat anything, line check

1/2

Not much of a read, just got a seat but table has 2 decent guys I know so I'm already on a table change.

Villain is young, doesn't seem to know a ton of concepts, looks like a surfer. $250ish

Hero $300.

I think someone made it something small like $6 or $8 pf, I had 3x3 in the SB, 4 of us to the flop.

Flop ($25-30) 3x 4 5

I lead for $20, an old guy calls $20, Villain makes it $40, 4th guy folds.

I have no idea if Villain is playing 2-6 just because it's suited, but that hand, A2, 67, 44, 55 seem to be what he can have. This is what I'm thinking, although I know can't fold here, don't necessarily need to get to showdown, but folding/raising are awful. I call, old guy folds.

Turn ($125) 3x 4 5 6

I check. Villain bets 50. So whatever he has, he doesn't understand sizing very well. I don't see how he can have the 8 of spades in his hand, so only 3 cards definitely give me the winner, 7, 2, case 3. If he has a straight though (one 6 is most likely in his hand), I have 11 outs to quads, boat, sf. So that makes me around a 3.5-3.6:1 dog, I'm getting 3.5:1 on my money, so I called. Not really looking for feedback here either, just my thoughts.

River ($225) 3x 4 5 6 4x

Villain has about $150 left and I cover.

So I beat the A2, 26, 67 he could have flopped, 44 is just very unlikely now, only really lose to 55. So do I b/r here, b/c? And what sizing? Now that the board is paired and there's 3 to a flush I don't know if I can get his remaining $150 if he has a straight. This is where I didn't know what to do.

pot's $225 and you only have $150 left? i'd just ship it. if he's calling $75-$100, he's calling it all. and i think he's calling it all unless he missed.

shove. hope he calls. if you check, he's checking back his straight anyway, so may as well bet and hope to get a call.

Why? This gives you at least 2 players whose moves you can predict pretty well. I love sitting in with the better guys at my poker room (course, I think I'm better than they are....).

I love sitting with the worst guys in the room, that's just me though.

Re: Flopped set, don't beat anything, line check

OTF-Villain most likely does not have a set or a straight here because he would probably raise bigger instead of just min raise to "protect his hand" since they don't want to take a bad beat. Since you have the 3 in your hand, he can't have a 3X. My guess is that the top of his range is 45. He is most likely putting out a feeler raise with something like 66+, A5 or maybe a FD but I don't see too many players raising with FD these days, especially on this board unless it is a combo draw.

OTT-I wouldn't really read too much into his bet sizing because most villains have trouble keeping track on the pot. It is just a big bet in absolute terms. As for him having 44, 55, or 66, I would discount but not rule these out. I see most players check behind with these hands on this type of board. I also sometimes see players bet but I would say that the majority check behind so I would discount these holdings. The bet here really doesn't make sense given his action OTF, unless he had a draw and got there. It's almost like his range is polarized to either flushes or hands he is turning into a bluff.

OTR-I would just shove. Most villains would just throw their hands up and call with their flush or straight, even when they know that they are beat. There are more combos of straights and flushes then boats or quads and you will most likely get paid off by his entire range. If he was bluffing, he probably wouldn't call any bet.

probably 3b the flop is better... if he shoves it gets tough but we probably shrug call and pray board pairing barring read that hes a nit or other pertinent history... calling is ok but if we do that im calling turn like you did and probably betting 100ish on river

Lol, tell me where you play, I'll make the cross country drive if necessary.

Are you leveling man? 3b isn't clearly the best on the flop, but people can definitely have 77 or combo draws on this board...

I'd 3b flop. Call isn't awful. Turn is fine. Just shove the river. Anything he bets should be calling here.

^ If you 3bet it's a bluff. You're not 3betting for value, you admit if he 4bets you beat nothing. Or is "shrug call and pray" your guys' power move?

No one's min raising 77 with 3 others in the hand on this board lol.

this kind of villain I'd bet $80 on the river and expect him to call or shove more often than not. Maybe you could go as low as $40 hoping for the sigh & call but then you're never getting the shove.
