A decent assumption is that you need to be at least 20x deep to call pre with a speculative hand.
As V opened for $16, and 20x is $320, you are right at the edge of it.
I probably would not play the hand with this stack. But it's not like it's a huge mistake.
Floating the flop was a massive mistake, as you don't seem to know if you would be able to take the pot away from him unimproved.
With a suited gapper isn't the suggestion more like 35x or $560? Though I suppose that's the pure "nut-mining" aspect. If we play well post-flop and use position properly I suppose we can lower this threshold, but...vs. a serious, aggressive 20-something I'm probably going closer to 35x than 20x as a guideline.
As an aside...if hero had bought in full it would make the call better. Why not buy in full / top up? Gives us way more maneuverability.
Saw results. Looks like V got some fancy play syndrome going as well. He can get the money in just bet/bet/bet, why on earth is he doing a x/r? Betting 30/75/194 is a much better way to get the money in without looking like he has trips+
And not to be too results oriented but this is why I don't like floating on a paired board (though I'm calling the turn x/r all day).
