Facing overshove OTR... 1/3... Am I disabled? Facing overshove OTR... 1/3... Am I disabled?

My views on this player are the following going into the following hand:
  • Little bit on the loose side pre, but pretty solid post flop.
  • European kid (possible idiot from Northern Europe?)
  • Has sun glasses on. So it's pretty obvious he means business.

Hero: ~300BB
Villian: ~200BB

Villian puts a 6$ straddle on the button.

Hero dealt: 69

SB: folds
BB: calls
UTG: folds
UTG+1: folds
MP(Hero): raises to $35
MP+1: folds
MP+2: folds
CO: folds
BTN(Villian): calls
BB: folds

FLOP: ($77)
898

Hero: bet $30
Villian: calls $30

TURN: ($137)
898K

Hero: check
Villian: bet $65
Hero: calls $65

RIVER: ($267)
898KT

Hero: check
*Villian tanks for maybe a minute or so*
Villian: Shoves ~$450
Hero: ?????

I'll post my decision after I get some feedback.

Thank you!

I'd rather have more of a hand or more conducive reads on V before I start stealing with something as weak as 96s, especially in MP. As a one off thing, I don't hate it. If you're routinely raising hands as weak as this, you're going to be hemorrhaging money.

What's your plan on the flop?

I don't like the small bet. If we're going to bet small I'd rather just check it. If we had something like TT+, would we really offer such great odds on a flop like this?

OTF, it's time to decide whether we're going to blast V off his hand, go for a cheap showdown, or just give up.

If we're going for a cheap showdown, I'd just check it.

If we're going to blast him off his hand, let's lead out for something like 70, as we might with an actual overpair.

AP, the K is a decent barreling card. I'd lead out for 100. With the PFR, apparently weak flop lead and strong turn lead, we're starting to look like we like our hand and are committing. If V continues after that, we're probably in bad shape and can x/f the river, even though we have MPNK.

River is a fold. Yes, he might be blasting us off our hand with a whiffed FD, and we're good against that (since he's not jamming a hand with just SDV). But he needs to be doing that nearly 40% of the time just for us to break even. I doubt that very much.

Let's get this out of the way: fold pre.

Playing 2-gappers OOP against decent post-flop players is not going to win you money long term. You went $35 preflop at 1/3 after 1 limper? Seems a bit high, no?

AP, snap fold? I really don't know what you're beating here with pair of 9s no kicker? Feels like the whole thread is an elaborate troll.

Fold turn also.

Did you make a typo and actually have 89s ?

Fold pre, fold river.

W/ straddle, we're only 100bb effective. Even if we were deeper, 96s shouldn't be in our opening range. Raggidy hand, bad position. No reason to open this. If we're stealing from the BTN, ok. If table's super nitty and we're stealing from the CO, ok. But that's about as far as I'd go.

OTR, QJ is one of the worst hands I'd call with.

Fold river

Way too early to be getting out-of-line preflop; trivial fold, imo. Even moreso that Button straddler is loose preflop and solid postflop; WTF are we looking to get into a possible pissing war OOP to him with junk?

I'm either/or on the flop. Our hand is likely best and vulnerable, so for that reason I like the bet, although if he raises us that really puts us in a difficult spot (and for that reason I don't mind checking). And even though the board is drawy, I don't think we have to worry too much about that as we do keeping this pot under control, and for that reason I like our smallish sizing.

Turn I think we can do either/or as well. We can just try to get to showdown by pretending we're afraid of the K (which hits our range) and go into check/call mode to induce against busted draws. Or we can bet smallish again and just be happy ending the hand (if it ends). I'm cool with check/call, although we'll likely be facing a difficult decision on the river (where we'll probably have to call).

Gross spot. When facing overbets they are typically either "I want to get paid off huge" versus "I want you to fold". K could have very easily hit our range and he's simply hoping we have enough AK and see enough busted draws to pay him off. So I think I lean to a fold.

Fold pre ldo, fold river ldo. Rest of the hand, I guess it depends on what your plan was.

I have a feeling this is a reverse HH. If so, sorry "hero" called.

I picked up my cards, getting ready to throw them in the muck.

"Nice hand kid," I say to our Villian.

But at that very moment, I instantly lose consciousness.

I come to in this place that can only be described as Paradise.

This image doesn't do it much justice, but it kind of looked like this:

After the nice "White Magic" man confided in me his views on the Villain. I slowly came back to Earth.

I had fallen out of my chair, everyone in the room surrounded me and had been looking at my lifeless body. "Is he dead?" I heard one person say, "Should we call an ambulance?" Another asked.

Slowly pulling myself off the ground, I was able to mutter a couple words... "C..C...Call... I Call!"

The Villian shook his head with disgust... "You got it."

I flip over my 69

The entire room erupts. "HE DID IT" "WHAT A CALL!"

I get carried out on the shoulders of my poker playing peers and we proceed to create a small riot on the casino floor.

Spoiler:
GG. White Magic OP.
