Entry fee instead of rake. Entry fee instead of rake.

Hello,

I have a question regarding rake vs entry fee for a home cash game.
There's no casinos where I live so home games are very popular.
I play 1/2 (local currency) in non-raked games but the entry fee is about 40-50 for most games.

Is this reasonable? it seems a bit much when I calculate how much rake one pays in a 5% raked game per session on average.

These homegames are usually quite soft (or very), and there's snacks and light beverages and coffee.

What do you think?

How long is your session? If it's over 4 hours, it sounds like a good deal to me.

Rake in casino is usually 5 dollars with an additional 2 dollars in promotions . So if you win 3-4 pots an hour you get raked like 25 dollars an hour.

I did some math a while back on average coming off the table at 1/2 games (not including promotions, which theoretically come back) and IIRC, the average 1/2 player pays $12-15/hour in rake. So any time charge under $12/hr is theoretically saving you money (assuming you win an average number of hands). If you play super tight, you pay somewhat less rake since you play fewer hands, but still, I'd be happy with anything at or below $10/hr.

There's also an advantage to that money coming out of people's pockets instead of off the table, as it has the effect of making the game play deeper.

This home game is scheduled to be 4 hours long, but there's usually a small extension, so I'd call it 5 hours.

I guess for that price It's worth at least to check the game out, It's held almost weekly.

Thanks for the comments!

One thing about raked games is that players that get stacked and go home broke pay no rake, whereas in this game they will pay the same amount as someone that wins huge.
