Did I Blow It? Did I Blow It?

Table Dynamics - 1/3 Encore Boston, Wednesday early afternoon. Table has been running for about 2.5 hours. Hero has been at table for about one and a half hours. Table is a tougher table, a lot of older thinking players. Not super aggressive preflop but very aggressive postflop.

V in this hand is a middle aged white man, no real experience with. He is prob the 'wildest player' at the table. On two occasions he has raised pre, and bet every street. In one hand I turned two pair against him (top pair, bottom pair) and he bet turn and river and when called he insta mucked. No flush was on the board and only a backdoor straight came in on river. This type of situation has happened at least 2 other times.

OTTH -

V1 stack ~ 400ish
H covers

One or two limps before it gets to V in HJ who opens to 15. This has been his consistent since sitting down. He prob raises preflop about 35% of the time.

Hero makes a speculative call with Q8cc in Button. Speculative call I know. Shoot me, one other EP limper calls. All others fold.

Flop (50ish)
8c8h4h

EP checks, HJ checks, Hero bets 20 (wanted to look like I was stealing it, trying to build flop)

EP folds, HJ thinks for about 30 seconds and raises to 75. I elect to call

Turn (200ish)
8c8h4h2s

V checks

Hero goes all in

V contemplates for about 1 minute and mucks.... was my sizing wrong here? Was I better off checking turn, acting like I have flush draw? My b/c line on flop either screams flush draw, overpair, or 8x no?

All thoughts appreciated.

Pre is fine. 3 bet to isolate might be better against him if he’s that out of line post flop. As played flop is fine. Turn should be a bet of $125 or so. Makes it a lot easier for him to call rather than folding his overpair or flushdraw to your overbet.

Just bet a normal size on the turn and let him peel with his crap

Fold pre; $30 otf; shoving is an overplay Ott - we definitely want to bet, but $100 looks good

There's two eight of clubs in the HH.

Fold or 3-bet pre. AP, on the turn, you should bet a "normal" size -- like $100 or $115 or whatever, you still have two streets to get all the money in. Betting $300 into $200 might be the only way you're making this person fold 55+ here.

I just fold preflop. If I'm considering making speculative calls like this then I want to be up against easy peasy face up fit/fold type players that will never put me in difficult spots. This ain't that guy. Our most likely hand we're going to make is one pear; are we willing to go to the felt with that one pear? Because this guy is going to force us to do that.

Think I'm more for checking back the flop with this guy in the hand and looking to setup a spot where he'll start barrelling air into my nuts. Although I don't hate our idea of a small bet hoping to get played back at either.

Think I'm also just calling the flop check/raise and hoping this guy barrels off into my weakness. It's a little risky with some draws on board but I'm willing to risk that.

I think our overbet shove on the turn is too much. This guy is described as aggro, not a complete moron; it's unlikely he's going to continue to this shove. If we're willing to risk it, I think checking back and attempting to rep a busted flush draw which he can then barrel into us / perhaps weakly pay off on the river is fine. Otherwise if betting I think we have to give a more reasonable price for someone at a tight non-moronic table to chase something (like $75).

I would go $75 - $80 OTT. We can bet small with our whole range that wants to bet vs this c/r check line. He's gonna have a lot of air or hands that don't make sense to c/r flop and this sizing can induce spaz.

Yes you blew it. No need to 1.5x the pot on the turn with such a static board. I like a check back on the turn to give V one more chance to bluff. At most he probably only has two outs, if any, so you really aren't worried about much.

Grunch.

Calling is the worst option pre.

I go $35 OTF. Also calling the raise.

I go $115 OTT. Want him to incorrectly continue with suited heart broadways. Definitely don't want him hero folding an overpair.

Shoving all rivers if checked to
