I personally use a 2.5 - 3 buy-in stop loss and only regret about once per four or five months.
However, once or twice a month i'm grateful for it because when you are playing bad, the last thing you want is a pocket full of buy-ins.
If you view poker as one long session then you really don't mind having a stop loss. Similarly, if you lose 3 buy-ins in a session, you aren't going to be in a good state of mind to keep playing, best to just call it a day.

How old are you? I would guess in your early twenties? Reason I say that is the above bold is ego laden dribble.
A stop loss is an active control measure that will kick in when you encounter a "symptom" of bad play-- i.e. serially busting out. The reason why this is important is because all human beings (yes including you) have difficulty assessing their current emotional state and this goes double for when we are angry, tired, or otherwise emotionally stressed.
A stop loss is a great way to protect yourself. But, if you want to believe you are super awesome then feel free to bring ten buy-ins to the casino.
God bless those people. I love it when someone is running bad and they have a bottomless wallet and a pocket stuffed with 5, 8, or 10+ buy-ins
.
Basically, any and everything we can do to control ourselves can only help. As human beings, we are all prone to tilt or bruised egos. It's not about being "cowardly" but rather about being "smart"
