Sorry, life got busy at work and I forgot to post this for a while. We're running a tournament of old Concepts of the Month, mostly to get you to go back and read them, because they are pure gold, but also to choose what the forum votes as the GOAT COTM.

Last game, Two very good threads battled, with "Big Draws" beating out "Adjusting to Table Dynamics."

This game will pit the second COTM ITF, "Identifying and Exploiting Scared Money," by YouCheckRaise
vs.
"Betsizing," by RichyRich9987

Here's the deal: Cannot answer poll until you have read/re-read both threads. The winner is not the COTM with the best OP, but the one you think is the best overall.

And, go!

Just finished re-reading. Scared Money was a decent reminder, but kinda limited, imo. Bet Sizing continues to be a leak for so many in this forum. Everyone should re-read that thread ASAP.

Bet sizing hands down. This might be the tell I pick up on quickest when I'm able to see V's hand @ showdown. Instantly tells me if they'll give me odds to draw, bets TPBK, what and how much they consider a "value bet" to be and generally how aggro or passive they are.

Don't really like the bet-sizing thread.

1. Lots of people arguing with one of the best poker players on 2+2. Hint he's the one talking about having a plan.
2. Missing lots of obvious things to think about:
A) Decide what's the most someone will call with their most likely range of hands. Bet more than that if you're bluffing. Bet that amount if you're value-betting.
B) No real consideration at all that poker is a multi-street game and that you should be planning your value-betting/bluffing across multiple streets.

Another old vs. new.

I actually was not the biggest fan of the bet sizing COTM when it came out, and I think the arguing detracts from the thread instead of adding to it. On the other hand, if "scared money" came out now I wouldn't be the biggest fan of it either, but back then (when I was way lower on the learning curve) I remember really liking it because it highlighted a lot of habits I should be avoiding.

I really liked the bet sizing one. I didn't find the subsequent discussion in the scared money thread to be of a higher quality than the exchange in the bet sizing thread (even if I disagreed with some of the posts there). Scared money sort of devolved into a "let me tell you my best anecdotal story of scared money" thread rather than actual discussion of the topic.

Both of the OPs were pretty decent.
But to be honest, I felt a lot of the commentary in both was pretty mundane even useless.

There were a solid points made in both, but they both feel like 'starting points' for people to do their own research and exploring more than our COTMs now which seem to be more content rich.

Great idea with the tournaments. I wouldn't never have read these COTM if these weren't on the front page of LLSNL.

I think the Scared Money was hands down better. It really dissects the different types of scared money players and how to adjust.

Bump. Someone break this tie and I'll post the next one, now that I'm back from vacation.

I chose Betsizing.
I think for one that topic is endlessly more crucial to explore and critical for success.
Scared money indeed devolved into a lot of anecdotals as stated.

both important, both good threads. i chose betsizing because i like diverse opinions and thought that different POVs were well handled by the OP.
