I'm thinking cold calls and AA/KK hands will be easy enough to document.
Lol, although, I typically black out when I have AA/KK... these are "Here we go again" hands for me.

All the more reason to record them. If they're "here we go again" hands and not "here's where I made my money" hands then you should definitely be looking over then to find out why.

For sure I will.
I love AA and KK, just need to learn when to fold them. Also need to learn better when to value bet on the river. Usually so happy to just make it to river.

Sounds like a bet sizing issue.

Quick ? - in my spreadsheet I'm recording the Equity-adjusted $$$ won in each of my hands. Should I record the gross? Or should I subtract the $$$ I VPIP'ed?

And lol sample size, but I'm definitely seeing some trends WRT cold calling vs. ISO'ing...

I'm recording amount won as total pot - my $VPIP.

I guess it doesn't matter unless its the same for all hands, I was thinking about it because my overall poker tracker records the net profit, not including my initial buy-ins and add-ons.

I'm a poker stats fish so I appreciate the feedback. Guess I gotta go back and make sure my work is correct. Guhhhhh....

There's got to be an easier way, this data entry is pretty brutal. I can't even imagine doing this is as a full-time player.

I imagine you'll improve as you go. Just think about the first project you ever did with excel for school. THe simplist thing took hours. Now you can do it in minutes.

The recording of hands is pretty easy, it's just typing it again in the spreadsheet is pure AIDS

What do you guys think about these comments on hand histories from Mason Malmuth? Start at about 51:45 in the video. He thinks there is too much of an emphasis on hand histories and suggests that's not the right way to learn about poker (he does think they have some value, but thinks there is too much of an emphasis on hand histories).

On page 9 of the same thread, Mason writes:

Quote:
On the other side of the coin, she advocates 10,000 hours of study/work to become an elite player which I also think is crazy, and as part of this you need to review a gigantic number of hands histories which should drive you crazy. She doesn't seem to understand that poker is based on a manageable and finite number of concepts that you need to learn to implement and this includes balancing some concepts that at times seem to contradict.

I think that if you are systematic and don't bite off more than you can chew then it's great.

Hey guys:

I had promised an analysis of my own monthly recorded hands toward the end of this month, and it looks probable that I won't be able to deliver on time.

Just got word from back home that my dad is terminally ill and expected to die in a week or so. So I'll be heading back east to say goodbye in the next few days.

Revised timetable on my post is likely first week of October, but I really can't be sure at this point.

I was asked by a couple folks to post some more detail on this. I made a bunch of screenshots yesterday and will put up a little tutorial on how to set this up using the app tonight in my PG&C thread.

I've been tracking the past couple weeks and have decided I'm not getting AA/KK often enough. Suggestions?

Ask for a deck change and/or a wash as often as possible.

Play AK/QQ(the devils hand) as if it were AA. This will create pots > 30bb and if tracking those you will have plenty to look at. That's basically what I did.

Well, poker is about deception. That's why I've started folding AA preflop. Nobody expects it and when I do it they can never put me on AA.
