Just getting into the live game and working my way through the stickies abs memorable threads.

What happened to the COTM threads after Feb this year? Any more to come or updates to older ones?

They're an absolute goldmine for someone in my position

Thx guys

I know there is at least one that did not get added to the OP, but it has been a REALLY long time since we had one. I was working on a collaborative one but that has stalled out, I think.

I would like to try to revive the COTM, though. I'm willing to write one, but what should I do it on? I don't want to do relative position by myself (unless spike comes back and says it's OK). I had some ideas on a COTM on "betting for protection" (which beginning live players may get something out of, but I think the experienced players won't at all). Maybe a mod can chime in?

There were a couple ideas for COTM topics posted in the chat thread a while ago, and I know Garick was interested in reigniting these. I'll see if I can find those suggestions....

I'm fine with almost anything. A COTM on betting for protection could go in a bunch of different directions. Bet sizing is important and many people believe that means, "make everyone fold on the flop and collect the pot."

Should I write it up? I can send pieces so you can see if you like where it's going, or I can just do the whole thing and send.

Call Me Vernon

I personally would love a COTM on donk betting...when to do it and how to counter it. I feel like I don't have it in my arsenal and I struggle mightily to counter it

Do it, man. Nobody else is going to! Look forward to the new content.

Unless you want my input on the draft, just send me the final to review. I only want to make sure it is coherent. It doesn't need to be a masterpiece.

If you're going to do something on donk betting, read this first.

I was actually thinking about this a few weeks ago and wondering what I could contribute to this and what I would like to see... The one thing I came up with that I don't see a lot of 2-5 players doing is overbetting for value and overbet bluffing. I've gotten some good experience with it, however I wouldn't say i'm an expert. I'd also like to see a topic about underbetting to induce. Something like this: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/19/high-stakes-pl-nl/well-jman28-revisisted-88525/index3.html post #277

I think we already have a COTM on overbetting, don't we?

I remember reading something about betting 'bigger', but nothing about betting 1x-5x pot for value (with the occasional 2x pot bluff thrown in).

I just did a bit o' looking for an overbetting concept anywhere but couldn't find anything.

I was wondering if anyone could do a COTM involving 3-betting at LLNL, especially hands such as AJ and AQ which have pretty bad RIO in a multi-way pot against aggressive openers.

There's a thread in Best Of where mpethy already covers it really well.

So now that we've had 3 in a row, do we have one lined up for next month?

Similar to betting for protection and relative position, there've been some threads on here, and also, I was just reminded by this article:

http://www.twoplustwo.com/magazine/i...r-scissors.php

that there are so many people on here who do not understand basic game theory (the authors butcher it in the article which is why I was reminded of it). If there is demand for it I could write something that tries to fix that. But it may not be such a great idea if there are better COTMs in the works.

None lined up that anyone's told me about. FWIW, I think prisoner's dilemna (yes, you stupid spell-check, this is the correct spelling) is a much better illustrative game for game theory.

If you'd be willing to write such an article up, I think that would be great, barring someone having dibs with venice.

I disagree, though would be happy to use both as examples.

RPS is a zero-sum, fair game where the GTO strategy is easy to compute and mixed. The thing about PD that makes it worthwhile to study is that the Paredo optimal solution is for both players to play dominated strategies (which can only happen when the game is not zero-sum). Neither makes for a perfect analogy to poker because of how simple they are, but poker is a zero-sum game, like RPS but unlike PD.

But like I said, I could easily use both as examples.

Someone else can go ahead, but I'm working on a relative value COTM. I'm getting tired of reading about people wondering if TP is good on a paired board.

I've been thinking about something having to do with having but blockers. I.e. AdAh on JhTh5h board. It's in it's infancy. Maybe it'll stay there.

Let's both write ours so we'll have 5 months in a row, and then you mods can decide which should go up first.

I'll get started on mine pretty soon.

I just finished mine. If I don't hear from you, I'll put mine up for October and you can have November.

Vernon finished his too, and ran it by me. So which do we think is better for October, relative value or game theory optimal explained?

I vote for relative value as the last couple have been a little more advanced/theoretical. RV is pretty concrete and immediately applicable to the newbs.

I have a couple ideas for a COTM as well if you're looking to stack them up for a few months.
