Cool. This forum is the nuts!

Live poker is absolutely the way forward (at least for me) and to have these types of discussions is extremely +EV.

bet/fold???? Dude, I didn't drive all the way to the casino to fold bro!

How about, the "makeup" of a good ssnl live player? Wide open subject, but with some of the posts I have been seeing lately it may be needed...

I think I have a thread about the bet/fold somewhere, but for me it's been more of a prayer rather than an art.

Absolutely. I am taking my time, trying to get a few things down on "paper" sort out the clutter.

Moving to take poker more seriously... Whether that goes from drunken homegames to playing live in a cardroom, from making poker a social once a week thing to a "part-time job" to dropping everything and making it a living... Not necessarily moving up in stakes, but moving up in terms of how you view poker as income I guess...

Id be willing to right this subject at least on the first two levels, but I would love the assistance of someone who either is, or has, played poker purely as their sole form of income to assist with making it your fulltime career, as I am semi-pro at best...

spr - an explanation

pot control - a key concept or a myth

equity - the first thing u should consider before making any move

ranges - your perceived range and putting ur opponents on a group of hands

venice just posted a couple of nice links to uNL COTWs that have some content which is applicable to this forum. Perhaps the COTWs from other forums that can be applied to live play fairly easily could be linked to in this forum?

BUMP

It took a holiday for me to find the time to sift through all the suggestions, but I've updated the schedule. In order to make these updates final and not temporary, I need feedback on the following:

(1) I think understanding the house take, be it rake or drop or time, is hugely important to winning live players. Is there anyone willing to kick off this discussion?

(2) I like the idea of multiple contributing authors. For "moving up" I suggest ashley12 kick off the thread with a discussion of moving from drunken penny stakes homegames to taking the game more seriously as a hobbyist/enthusiast/part-time income, and then HammerHead69Baby can take us through the considerations for moving from 1/2 to 2/5 to 5/10. What do you guys think?

(3) I'm not sure if November's topic (game/table selection) has enough meat for a COTM. Anyone else think I should drop it?

(4) As usual, MOAR topics please!

Agree, fairly simple topic, is never too hard to realise that you are at the nittiest/tightest/most competent table

Also there is the problem of no game selection in small poker markets. Hard to table change when there are only two tables at your level that both suck...

Im more then happy to write a cotm for starting to take poker seriously...

For November, how about "thinking in ranges"? I notice this is a fairly common issue, where a player "puts you on AK" or "I put him on top pair" or "I put him on a draw". I think its quite unnatural to devise lines that work well against multiple types of villain holdings, and a primer for starting down that path would be a big help to a lot of people (I imagine).

ashley12, I've put you down for that topic.

Also, I noticed AcePlayerDeluxe requested September for his topic, so I shuffled some around to accommodate that.

Can the next concept of the month please be about limp re-raising and why it's (usually) not optimal?

If it is done, it should be by two authors, one on each side. Let them argue it out. FWIW, l/rr isn't a bad play if done for the right reasons. Most people do it for the wrong reasons and the wrong circumstances.

I'm pretty attached to the next subject being rake, since I think its so important to understand (we still need an author!). We've an opening in November. Is there really enough about LRR to have a month long discussion?

Rake I would like to read

SPR I would like to read

I think those two would be good.

I definately disagree about limp r/r not being optimal. I'll volunteer for COTM, but i dont think i know enough about rake and the math behind it to write a COTM
