This situation has come up a few times for me in the last couple of weeks.
When do we bet to protect Ace high when there is a dry side pot? When do we bet into a dry side pot when it's not for value for any hand?
Example:
1/2 game, Hero raises to 12 in middle position with AQ suited.
Button calls. SB goes all in for 35. Hero calls, button calls.
Flop: 665. Check check.
Turn: 9 check check.
River: blank, you get the idea.
Hero shows AQ, button shows KTs, BB mucks.
Ideally, hero should have charged V to see more cards. This is just one example where I feel I don't know the best play to make.
When do you bet into a dry sidepot? Ace high? A draw? Never?
Assuming that you know you have the all-in's in the mainpot beat, then:
Bet if you feel you have the best hand, even if that is just Ace high.
Also bet if you feel you can bluff out the better hand.
...so same principles as normal situation.
But if you don't feel like you're ahead of all-in's range,a then I generally do not bet. Most players will not bet you off a hand when there is no side-pot for the same reason. I'm ok taking free cards to try to suck out on all-in's. No need to risk money until there is a chance for reward
You are not making any more money in this hand by betting. V is folding his KT to any bet. In this situation V is only calling a bet with a hand that beats ace high.

Doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't bet. You might want to bet to protect your equity so KT doesn't bluff you off A-high on later streets. Not saying I would here, but there are times to bet when worse isn't calling.
Don't get in this position in the first place. You should have 4 bet everyone else out pf.

I'd want to know how deep we were before I decided on 4-betting or not and for what reason I were 4-betting and the sizing. That's why I was asking for the ...
I dont see why you would want to protect AQ when the allin has you beat with 22 or whatever. It's kinda silly to somehow know you have somebody beat postflop when they're allin blind.
Man, nobody played SnG's or what? When you fold people out of the pot, their hand equity has to go somewhere. Most of it goes to the current best made hand with drawing hands gaining a little bit.

This is a live 1/2 game...KT is never bluffing you on later streets.
