so is this thread really just about OP having a 7 hour session and then a follow up session of 4 hours, where he got below average starting hands and board run outs?

f me. I'm a rec player too, but OP, you've either run exceptionally well in the past or you've recently imbibed huge dollops of entitlement

I'm not a wizard by any definition, but my advice is just to concentrate on playing patient, mistake free poker until the cards change. I'm not good enough to grind out decent profits without good cards, so (lifting this from somebody else in the WR thread), my strategy is to do my best to endure break even stretches until the next heater hits

Mr. C - I think what you might need to do is start to consider the next step in your poker game - playing position.

A lot of us poker players go card dead, and no you can't play every hand effectively from the BTN, CO or HIJ, but you can use position against the players at the table to still come out on top after 7 hours.

I think this goies together with your asking if you need to loosen up. In a way it does. You may not open to 100% on the button against a rock, but if you're against weak-tight, perhaps seeing the flop isn't bad...

In the past, I was playing most buttons in limped pots based on what NLHE:T&P suggested, but in recent months I've tried to follow more what the forum does and fold unless it is a decent hand.

It is more than just being card dead, it is about riding the bad side of variance and getting coolered often and trying to handle that.

My range of hands I'm playing on the Button/CO is more-or-less: AA-22, Axs, Kxs, AT+, 65+, 75+, 74+

Typically overlimping the non-premiums if limped multiway, sometimes raising non-premiums if 0/1 limper.

But I'm assuming the tighter you play here the less swingy you'll be (especially if not totally comfortable with your postflop play with mediocre hands), so you could go tighter than this.

I like to open up my LP range when I've been card dead/passive for a while.

Example:

MP raises 20, CO calls, I raise in LP to 110 w/ K4ss, folds around

Prolly a neutral play but if the table views you as tight/passive for a few hours your big re-raises pre get massive respect. Or I go play Stud.

If I could find a stud game I would play it, though Razz would be better
