Can I fold top 2 on the flop? Can I fold top 2 on the flop?

This was very first hand at a home game I played a couple of weeks back, had made my mind up on hand but it's come back to me.

50c/$1 home game.

I have history with V1 but no-one else, so no reads at all.

V1 - wannabe thinking player, he's getting there, does like to call raises/overlimp a little wider than I think is optimal at LLSNL and doesn't 3b/iso wide enough imo, postflop can bluff (will raise cbets on dry boards etc).

Vs 2-4 - brand new.

Effective stacks $200 (everyone relevant bought in for $200).

I am bb with 85ss

5 limps (including V1 in cutoff), SB completes I check.

Flop ($7)

2 5 8r

SB checks, I bet $5.50, UTG flats, MP makes it $16, folds to V1 in cutoff he makes it $31, SB check-shoves for $200!

What the......

Halp?

Feels like youre up against a set and maybe a mid overpair. Having only invested like six bucks I would fold and get more info on villains

pretty hard to fold pre when he checks in the BB.

pretty tough, I'm sure at least 2 home game donks think 99 is the nuts here. Too bad there are three opponents. So we lose to one combo of 88, one of 55, and three of 22. Anyone going nutty with 34/67?

If this were 100BB, I think I would just go with it. For 200BB, I'll make a nitty fold (disclaimer: I'm a nit).

Let me see if I understand this correctly... You flopped top two and invested $5.50 in to a pot that's been 5-bet to $200 before you had to put any more money in? This is a fist pump fold.

I don't care if V flips over and shows me two Uno cards, bought in with monopoly money, and is declared legally blind by the state.

+1

Since your V descriptions don't include 'shoves blind' or 'drunken/tilted spew monkey', yeah, I'm folding every time in this spot.

OK I did fold, and it was correct, just wanted to check without any history.

Fwiw V1 had 22, SB had check-4bet-shoved for > pot with 67! V1 actually tanked for a bit before calling with bottom set.

Take notes and win money Did the set hold?

I would have folded and not thought twice about it.

Board paired on turn, straight hit on river to rub salt in wound.

Turned out the SB was actually a much better player than this hand suggested, probably the best at the table. My guess is he did this in order to get paid off later (which he did), combined with thinking he had some FE (which he obv did if dude tank called with a set).

I tanked for a long time actually, I had no history and couldn't decide if this made it closer to a call or a fold (home games I play in have people spaz shoving A8 type hands here a lot).

Yeah after that action top two is a fold. Not folding bottom set though. Makes sense villain 1 had a set especially with his small reraise. Also note that its very likely for any of the villains except SB to have two pairs. They'd have to limp hands like 82s, 52o. SB might limp a lot wider though cause he's in sb

You're saying that the only reason to post a thread is if you made an incorrect decision vs opponents' exact hands or folded and weren't sure what they held?

You must be a real joy at parties squire.

All else - thanks for input.

Didn't you only invest $6.50 in this hand?

OP: words of advice

"don't go broke in a limped pot"

You bet, got flatted, raised, re-raised, then check/shoved on a board with no flush draw and even had to question whether to fold?
