butchered hand (i think) butchered hand (i think)

hi

i'm pretty new to live poker, this hand is from my second ever live session and i'd like some feedback as i'm pretty sure i butchered it but i'm not sure what the best line would have been to take...

8 handed, £1-£1 blinds, everyone has at least 150 BB, i have 150 BB, hi-jack limps, button limps, small blind checks. I'm in the big blind with 67 of spades and I also decide to check. I think it would have been ok to raise here however, all 3 players in the hand have limped a lot pre-flop and then called raises so i'm not sure a raise would have much fold equity.

Flop is 6d 6c Kh. Small blind checks, I decided to donk bet £5 into a pot of £4. I was basically trying to build the pot and try to get 3 streets of value from anyone with Kx. The reason I did this is that the players in the hand seem to let multiple streets check through a lot and I didn't want this to happen when I had a strong hand. Hi-jack called, button and small blind fold.

Turn is 9s. I bet big again, this time £15 into pot of £14. I chose this sizing on the basis that he'll call if he has a K. Hi-jack says "why did you bet so big?", i ignore him and he goes all in. At this point I wished I had a King so that I could just fold and move on as I know that this sort of move at these stakes is almost always an indication of strength however, I talked myself into the call on the basis that he might have thought I was bluffing and had decided to lose his mind or alternatively was over-playing K9.

In hindsight I now realise that of the hands he's likely to limp pre-flop and could possibly shove for value I only beat 62s, 63s, 64s, 65s, K9 whereas I chop with 67 and lose to 68, 69, 610s, J6, Q6, K6, A6 which is obviously a hell of a lot more combos.

Any feedback and advice on how to better approach this situation would be welcome.

Cheers!

A good way to make decision here is based on bet size and your range you play this way.
His raise was about 4x pot = we can fold 80% of our range.
Your range may be something like several kings (you dont have strong K due to preflop) and 6x, doubt you have any bluffs.
KJs KTs 62+ is cca 100 combos, so call best 20 = A6 K6 Q6, at J6 is border where we can fold w/o beeing exploited by bluffs, too optimistic value raise etc.

I think you played the hand very well until you called the turn shove. There are two things to realize on the turn. First, when an opponent acts weak but then makes a strong move "why so big? All in!" It is very nearly certain that he has a nut hand. Second, 67 actually beats no value hands here. You chop with 68 or worse and lose to 69 or better. So unless you want to include K9 in his range (which is optimistic given the first point) you are really calling to chop or lose, never to win. Given that, the turn is an easy fold.

I really like the flop and turn bets though, most players will check these flops but I think your bets are better.

This was a limped pot. V's range is literally wide open here. He is not blind, he sees the pair of sixes on the board. He is also massively overbetting the pot. You have put in only 20 at this point. You can fold.

I would be much more tempted to call this if it was a raised pot. Now V can have more sticky Ks in his range.

Agree with this assessment.

+2. Especially after the speech, which is almost always a tell of great strength, especially right before a shove.

Getting max value out of bad sticky V's with Ks was a great idea, especially on a paired board when so many Vs become non-believers and call down very light.

Once he shoves, though, you're toast.

Flop and turn good. Analysis good. Turn call bad, especially after his little speech.

LLSNL lesson: Never go broke in a limped pot.
