Breaking even 200NL live Breaking even 200NL live

Hi fellow poker enthusiasts I have been playing poker for about a year now and I have been very serious about the game. I have been studying it, reviewing my hands, stats... I play 200NL live and micros online and have found myself breaking even live. I am a TAG player who is more aggressive online than live. The reason being is that live players at my local card room are very loose and play any 2 cards so I find myself tightening up quite a bit. I have found myself only opening the top 8-10% of my range live. These are the hands that I would open with live: AA KK QQ JJ AK AQ *AJ and TT* "depending on position".

I would like to know how profitable 200NL players approach the game and if they also at one point were breaking even due to being **nitty**

Thanks in advance guys!

Are you really just 'breaking even' or are you winning like $10/hr which seems like you're breaking even and feels like a waste of time?

You can NIT your way to small profits, occasionally binking nice wins. But if you play too tight you allow villains to play better against you. And they also will stop giving you action.

I suggest opening it up a little in position.

fwiw I was breaking even because I wasn't nitty enough

You know, you play for a few hours, "man folding all the time is boring, I'm gonna make a move here" and you spew off a few bb and those add up.

One thing that took me far too long to realize is that you can actually profitably limp a lot of hands. For example hands like KJ in position, people are sometimes limping stuff like K-rag or J8 but folding those to a preflop raise. So you can just limp with such hands and then get lots of value from top pair.

Also you could probably be valuebetting better postflop. I can't tell you what better is, it's totally player dependent. But pay attention to what size other people are calling with what. If the pot is $50 and you have TPWK and you've got a read that villain is going to call $15 with any pair, forget about that $15 bet turning your hand face up and do it.

Dont be too nitty. A loose enough table allows you to open your range quite a bit and still have an edge.

Yeah that's way too tight. At one time I played that tight and I was break even for a month. Had to start playing more hands. Position is one way to open up. The other is using one of the top rules to playing lag. "See cheap flops"; you definitely have the postflop edge on 1/2 players given online background.

I am actually breaking even. I would get blinded out then win $50 then get back up to 100BB. I wait for these premium hands and sometimes I consider myself card dead.

By limping you mean flatting pre-flop when villain raises from EP??

So you became profitable after opening wider in position and varying your game from time to time? Value betting more and avoiding bluffs?

you arent playing too tight if your only gial is win $$$

but, you can win more if you play more. for example you should be playing 22+ all positions in 1/2 live. ep/ mp you can be tight aq+ if you want but lp you can play pretty much bbs or bbo even

this would put you at something like 13% vpip

OP, read the stickies. In that, you'll see that we have a rule against threads that cover, "how do I beat LLSNL in one post." In addition, you find all the answers you need to solve your problem.

I'll give you the first step. Winning LLSNL players don't have a set range of opening hands based on position.
