Bet/fold, bet/call or check back? Bet/fold, bet/call or check back?

1-2

H: been very active but losing. Lots of big hands either run down by showdown or I've had to fold on a later street after raising pre. Table has commented 'bet or raise only, no fold in you?'. Covers.

For what it's worth I'm generally tight-ish but that doesn't matter here. I basically don't limp though and that's what they see.

V: 20s white guy with tattoos, can't decide if he was competent or not. Limped too much for one definite leak. $260.

Pre - 4 limps including V, H makes it $17 with 78 (table had been limp folding a lot, maybe a leak) from button.

Only V calls from MP.

Flop - 678hh

V donks $20, I raise to $65, V calls

Turn - 9h (ew)

V checks. H???

Plan for rivers if I bet and he flats?

If V tends to be more passive and will check back almost all rivers then I don't hate getting to showdown cheaply. I don't hate shutting it down completely and just check folding the rest of the way.

I'm starting to play around with bet/folding more scary turns. 55-85. Sure, we really only fold out hands we beat, but we may still get calls from draws that turned top pair. Some weaker flushes might find a fold if we continue OTT.

If you think your preflop 17 gets you heads up or wins the pot often enough based on the table, then it's fine. Nice play.

Check turn back, evaluate his river bet size. Pick off a bluff sometimes, fold the rest. If he checks river, check again.

What an ugly turn. I check back the turn and evaluate. I don't see much point in betting unless his check is a clear sign of his being scared.

Do you normally double-barrel?

Agreed. We couldn't hand pick a worse card for our hand ott. Time to try and salvage our showdown value of possible. Even the hands that we could hope to get value against have to be scared on this board.

I'm actually a big advocate of double barreling at 1-2, sooooo many people will call one street with their ace high or underpair but not two.

I should rephrase: Does V expect you to double-barrel -- even on this scary board?

The turn hits villain's flop donking range pretty hard, so I'm slowing down and soul-reading the river.

Yeah figured my betting turn was stupid, don't think many are going to advocate for it.

I bet $85, he jams, I fold.

Ugh massive leak could have saved $.

I think this is one of those spots where you can exploit the fact that most V's think of bets in terms of absolute dollars instead of relative size. Betting 55 will give us the same info and will probably only be exploited by very competent Vs.
