Best Book for novice-intermediate moving from limit to NL Best Book for novice-intermediate moving from limit to NL

Long story short, my mom is a widow and was getting depressed for lack of activity so I bought her Lee Jones book on limit holdem (thinking it was the most basic book) and took her to play 2-4 limit on last Mothers Day.

She's now hooked and beats the donks at that game to break even to a little ahead (which is crushing that game IMO given the rake at 10%+$1). Given she's retired, she plays more than I do when she's healthy (2-3 times per week).

She's thinking about moving to the 1/1 NL game (with a 40-100 buyin). What is the best introductory book to introduce a player with intermediate low limit limt ability to NL?

Small Stakes No Limit Hold 'Em by Ed Miller, Sunny Mehta, and Matt Flynn is pretty good.

There's also Super System by Doyle Brunson, though it covers a variety of different games.

I don't think you'd go wrong either way, but no limit is a whole 'nother story from fixed limit, and requires a definite change of mindset.

I want to mention that Small Stakes NLHE that Kyuubimon recommends is built more around 6 handed on-line play. There are better choices to be made IMO.

If you can find someone who owns Super System -- I know someone who grew up on playing 1/2 with only that book and the info available on line. If you buy it, keep in mind that it's for all types of games & you'd be paying for a book that has about 627 pages of material & only 100 pages about no limit. However, the content is high quality & a great place to start. That's the 2nd edition.

Here's a link to a starting hand chart created by Ed Miller some time ago, that is tight & will keep her out of trouble:

Being retired, she can do a lot of studying online at home and should be crushing the game forthwith!

I buy my books used [when I can] thru amazon.
