Hero $230
Villain covers - guy has been a bit of a maniac he was playing around 90/60 for a long time and has "settled down" to roughly 70/40. He'll call pretty much any pre-flop raise and continue with any piece or draw.

Hero is BB with KK
UTG straddle
Call, Villain calls, call
Hero raises to $20
only Villain calls

Flop J73r
Hero 40
Villain calls

Turn 7 - about $170 behind and 140 in the middle

Hero proceeds how?

I don't like my sizing much. I think $25 or 30 pre is better and then I can make it $50 or $60 on the flop and have less awkward sizing on the turn.

You can still shove if you think he is gonna call 89 or 9T. Otherwise, 70 turn and 100 river

You would hate your preflop sizing a lot more if you made it $30 and everyone folded. $20 is more than fine. Not every hand is going to work like paint by numbers.

You answered your own question. Just plan ahead a little more on your flop bet. It's still not terrible if you can get it in in three streets.

The main villain is said to be calling anything preflop. So there's definitely merit in going to ~$30 if he truly is calling anything preflop. Makes the rest of the hand much easier to play.

Flop bet is fine though. If we go too much more then we have to jam on the turn, which is just a huge bet and this villain is not paying attention to the pot size. He just sees "all-in for $150" fold. Which is why preflop is so much more important to get right. We go $30, he calls, we can go $60 OTT and leave us with $140. (Kind of does contradict the whole thing I said earlier)

Yeah, pre and OTF sizing look fine to me.
From here - I'd probably just go 100/70

grunch. I would go $40 pre.

as played, I would have bet full pot on flop to set up a pot sized turn shove.

As played, easy ship on the turn. If he had a piece on the flop, his perceived hand strength went up with the board pairing and he is unlikely to fold now. If he has a 7 you lose your money.

UTG straddle to (I'm assuming) $5. 3 callers before action gets to Hero if I am reading correctly, and we go 4x to $20? it's begging for 5 way action. The fact we got heads up here is an anomaly in my opinion.

Yes UTG straddle is $5 in this game.

Villain was absolutely calling $30 pre. Probably was calling $40 too.

$20 is a bit small. $25 or $30 are better (if I had it to do over again). But $20 after a couple limps in a straddle pot wasn't going 5 way. I try not to get into the mind of a 1/2 player but raises after limps in a straddle pot were folding more than you'd expect from raising after limps in a non-straddle pot.

AP, X-Jam is fine given SPR and he is an agro maniac.
You aren't bet/folding btw... and might as well induce from villain's bluffing range here because if you bet you are going to fold out most of his bluffs here and maybe even something like 88.

7 isn't the best turn card he's more likely to have a 7 then we are and yeah it improves his value range overall. But given his high VPIP he's going to have a very wide range OTT still and im guessing he is going to bet when xed to a lot here.

---

Setting up for a PSB left OTT here to GII > then betting and x-jamming (but AP), because this isn't a board i expect villain to be very agro/betting his entire range on as it never really hits him hard either.

Betting more than pot is ok. I would, however, go more pre if he is always calling. 30-40 is good.

I dont like preflop. I would make it $30. I think if he is calling $20 he is calling $30.

IF you make it $30 then
Flop: $80 you can bet $50.
Turn: Pot is $180 and you have $150 behind.

Preflop is good IMO.
Flop is good as well. If villain doesn't pay attention to pot size relative to the bet amount and is only worried about your bet's dollar amount, I think you can make it $60 and have him call all his draws and Js.
As played bet $90-120 on turn and shove any river.
