1/2

Villain is a marginal to decent winning player. Not overly loose pre but dont think hes that positionally aware. I vaguely remember that he is capable of raising tptk but cant remember the circumstance where i saw it. Ive seen him bluff when he missed a draw before too but its not a normal thing. Normally has the goods.

$250 effective
Folds to hero who raises to 12 in mp with KK. Villain calls from the bb.

Flop ($25)
Q 8 6 rainbow
Hero leads for $20, villain raises to $45, hero calls

Turn (115)
Q 8 6 5 rainbow
Hero checks, villain bets $75. Hero folds.

I am very used to folding 1 pair hands to raises in live 1/2. I auto piloted and afterwards was very skeptical, since AQ could be such a big part of his range here, and its generally gonna be AQ or sets. 2 pairs are unlikely because he usually folds those pre. I discounted gutshot bluffs somewhat because the hand before, he check raised me huge multiway and everybody folded.

Super player dependent. If you call flop you have to call on such a dry turn IMO. A reasonably good player shouldn't be raising sets too often on this board texture but you need that read.

If villain called you from the bb, shouldn't they be first to act on flop and turn?

Ya i mean the only real draw got there with 79 but he was unlikely to have this. I do think hed play it like this if he did call with 79 suited pre. Overall its a pretty dry board

This is key to the hand.

To confirm, were you check-raised on the flop and then villain leads out on the turn for $75?

Tough spot for sure. The check raise is an odd line to take here, I don't think doing so with a set is intuitive, especially since he check raised literally the hand before and got lots of folds. A set is still in his range, but unlikely.

So he most likely has AQ or 86 suited. 79 suited also a possibility too as the only draw on the board, which unfortunately got there on the turn.

No obvious play to this hand. I don't think folding is wrong or in anyway a poor play.

I'd likely call the turn with the understanding that I'm calling an all in on the river. If the villain checks the river, I'm betting around $100 for value from AQ. Given that he check raised the previous hand, I'm feeling he might be on a bit of a sugar rush here and overplaying AQ is the most obvious, but I also tend to get sticky with overpairs (usually with success) in situations where others might release.

V check raising OOP certainly puts sets back firmly into his range.
