$1/2 game and I'm UTG+2 w/ A6 and raise to $8 (questionable?) and get 1 caller from the BTN. Flop is A6:3 and I bet out $12 and get called quickly. 3 hits the turn and I check (questionable) and so does he. The river is 10 and I check yet again and he now bets $35.

At this point I'm lost and make a stupid c/c, it's only after that I realize he would have raised w/ any big Ace preflop (essentially the only hands that I can beat, A-K, A-Q, A-J, besides a bluff). For some reason my crummy 2 pair blinded me to the trips and the flush on board.

Any advice on how I could have avoided this spot on the river would be great. I realize now that the river was an obv c/f if I just would have thought it through then instead of just throwing that bet away.

What if I bet the turn instead of checked? The only thing that would be able to call me in that spot would be the 3 and once that happens the same result occurs on the river, c/f, but at least I could steal the pot away from all flush draws, making sure not to give cards for free.

Spoiler:
.... and that's just what happened. He rolled over 72 I guess hindsight is 20/20 but I know I could have played it better

Don't post results whether they're in spoilers or not. Definitely not in the OP; maybe post results if thread generates a lot of discussion. Even then I think it's better not to. Discussing your opponent's actual hand leads you to think in terms of putting them on one hand, when you want to be thinking about the entire range of hands they can have.

Is this a 9-handed table? Fold pre if so. It could be OK if you're confident in your ability to play postflop, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Give some reads on villain in the hand and your own image, as that has a big effect on how the hand plays. You say that villain would have 3bet pre with big aces: is that a general observation or something specific to this player?

Turn is a bet against almost everyone. You get called by Ax and flush and straight draws. Villain can have a 3, but it's going to be a small part of his range.

As played, river is probably a c/f, but as always, "it depends." Hard to say much more with zero reads.

Raise more pre if you're going to play this. Rest is meh, result of playing a mediocre holding and making a mediocre hand, much like your other post.

Fold pre.

Bet the turn.

B/f the river. We get called by Ax.
