For sure. I hate folding too. I keep telling myself I’ll do it more, but it doesn’t seem to happen.

Snap it off. He can value worse and there are a lot of missed draws a fish could take this line with. He’s only repping a few 8x combos or a weird slowplay. Not doing the math but he probably only has to bet a missed draw or worse value here like 10% of the time or less to make a call +EV given how many combos there are vs how much we lose to.

It’s really not a big deal if some people just always have it here. You’re destroying those guys in other parts of the game tree. Not that that matters for whether or not this is +EV, but you shouldn’t feel like calling in these spots is a leak.

Not sure how long we've been at the table, but I echo a few other posters that "bad rec" is not really a helpful read. What has he been doing that indicates he's bad?

A bad rec might be so LP that he gets here with lots of 8x and never bluffs.

A bad rec might always bluff missed draws because "that's the only way I can win the pot!"

A bad rec might have serious FPS and take this line with KT, thinking river is a value bet (I'm just spitballing here).

Folding here would be exploitative, and I wouldn't do it against most players. But certainly there are some 1/3 players against whom it's clearly correct.

Maybe OP doesn't know why he's bad. Sometimes someone just sits down and they're obviously a fish before you've seen them play their first hand. They have a certain demeanor that's difficult to describe but easy to notice.

Or maybe it's because almost everyone at 1|3 is a bad rec.

Pretty much just not enough time with this V to develop more accurate reads. I just immediately recognized him when he sat down as a bad player for whatever reason in my mind.

Results:

And yes I didn't give this one too much thought before calling for the reasons others mentioned. I guess my 1/3 game is a little rusty because he had 98o.

Oh yeah, 100% agree. I just meant that since it's kinda the lynchpin of the question OP is asking, a little more explanation would help (EDIT: saw OP's response, nm.)

This is a pretty standard call for me without reads.

I also don't think its helpful to describe someone as "bad." Why is he bad? Does he call too much? Bet too much? Is he too passive? Fold too much? How is he bad?

I read the above and I don't feel bad about paying him off here. That's just poker.
