H in this hand is a 20s WG, at the table for a few hours. ~270

V has joined in the last hour and is another 20s WG with a dumb haircut. He has talked about how he plays Zoom on PS, along with comments like "people fold more because you can get a new hand right away". V hasn't seen H play many hands, due to being somewhat card dead. Early in the session, I saw him c/r big on the flop (about pot) with a K9 FD on Ad65hh. He got there on the river and dragged a big pot. A little later, I doubled up against him with AK on an A98AX board, where he claimed to have AJ. This was about an hour before the below hand and was one of the first hands we played together.

He opens somewhat wide, esp IP. Seems loose but competent. V covers.

OTTH

Hero has AKo (no spades) in the bb. One limp and V makes it 10 from the button. This is pretty standard for him and represents a wide range, esp IP. Seems like an easy 3bet to iso. SB folds, H makes it 50, limper folds, V calls saying "alright, here we go" or something like that.

My thoughts are I can get action from a wider range from this V and I have him crushed right now. I'd like to get it HU and I don't mind taking it down pre OOP. If he does call, I can continue most flops and apply pressure. If he has a weaker ace, I might even be able to double up or at least get two streets of value.

F: JT6 all spades (~100)

H thinks and bets 60.

Thoughts are that he can't call without a strong spade in his hand and A / Ks are both big in my range here. He probably folds his underpairs or SCs that aren't in spades. On the other hand, he has all AXss and a lot of the KXss, maybe even QX (though given board I doubt it). He has most naked As (like AsTx). I think he calls AT and AJ with or without a spade. He might also do this with KJ, QJ, and mayyyybe KT and QT. He also has all sets. If called, I plan to shut down barring an A, K, Q (not of spades).

V calls.

Turn: 3x (~220)

Chk / chk. At this point, I'm looking for a cheap showdown. I don't think he has a flush, but some sort of weak made hand or draw (that's not folding). V says "you're looking for the spade huh?"

River: brick

H thinks and chks, planning to fold to any reasonable bet. V checks behind.

I'll post results later, but I felt really lost on this hand. i feel like I lost the min, but could I have played differently to take it down without a SD? Thoughts on all streets appreciated.

Seems standard to me. I suppose you could have checked /fold the flop to lose less or shove the turn and lose it all. After you check turn I don't think you can bluff the river unless another spade hits. OOP sucks - hard to tell what V has.

Looks fine. This is a situation where you can take all sorts of lines and need to mix between them. Just give up on flop some of the time. You should barrel turn some of the time. With a read on villain's range you can barrel all 3 streets but that has to be rare at best.

It's generally a bad idea to bet river after checking turn. Unless the river card changes the board texture you won't get enough folds, the exception being when villain is calling super light on the flop.

Postflop is tough and I'm not really sure what is best. One thing I do know is that if your plan is to fire once and shut down, there's no reason to bet 60 rather than 50.

I also think you can size down preflop. You’re only $270 effective you don’t need to be risking $50 to win $10. $35-40 will still allow you to easily get stacks in by the river while also getting him to defend a wider range.

This is just a really bad flop for you. I x/f and feel fine about it.
