Hi all,

Looking for thoughts on this.

1/3 game. Effective stack is ~$280.

H: young guy. Only been playing at the table for an hour. Caught bluffing once. Winning a decent amount of hands without showdown.

V: Middle aged.Playing pretty tight and ABC for the most part. Have seen him get out of line a few times though. Did notice he cold called a 3 bet in the BB with A9.

OTTH: I'm UTG+2 with KcJc and I open to $12. V is in the cutoff and 3 bets to $30. Folds to me. I normally would fold this most of the time as I am OOP and dominated a ton here. Actually I know I should have folded this. However, the 3 bet is so small!.

I decide to call which is prob the worst option but oh well. Could 4 bet SOME of the time as we are blocking lots of hands.

($64) Flop: 1092 I check and he bets $35. We call. Could raise here as well I think.

($130) Turn is an 8 We check and he bets $50. I think the only option we have is to check raise all in which we do. It'll be like 165 for him to call after betting $50 on the turn.

Thoughts on the hand? We have an open ender and a flush draw on the turn. Time to apply max pressure.

I don't open in EP with this hand, but I see the appeal. Yes, fold to 3bet. As played, flop is OK.

I think the place to raise was on the flop. I doubt we have much fold equity now, although we might have some. Lots of outs, but only three more than we had on the flop (assuming our flush is good, which I do) with only one card to come. His bet is so small I might just take the river for $50. Let's hope his small bet was weakness.

BTW, I like calling the turn to lead the river if we hit. Not a big bet, but maybe make him think we are trying to steal.

Fold to the 3bet.

As played x/r flop big and ship the turn. You’ve got a monster draw. Make the most of it. You’re never slow playing TT/99/T9s here so play it like you’ve got it.

x/r flop -> shove turn gives you two chances to fold better. This is part of the reason why folding to the 3! is best - people play too passively OOP with their draws when they should really be leveraging their hand equity and FE.

Realistically though, you are not deep enough to threaten villain so he probably just calls it off with AA here.

Everything johnnyBuz said.

Villain's range is wider thay just overpairs. He'll fold to our check/raise sometimes and if he happens to have it, lets get it in with around 45% equity and money already in the pot.

johnny and Nogyong, what do you do as played? Seems as if you both want to raise flop, which I agree with, but do you shove or call turn now? (Sorry if I misread, a bit tipsy.)

I'm not convinced we have much f/e on turn as played, think bet/calling (or shipping outright) the turn is likely to be a better line

Fold pre.

You are flipping with QQ/AA so raising flop is usually a good idea. His bet looks a lot like a hand that missed and you can't even beat AK. You are OOP so even if you hit your hand it will be hard to get paid.

Depends whether you think he can fold a big pair - only you will have that live read. The only made hand you are repping is QJs that hit the OESD. You would have raised your sets and two-pair on the flop.

That said, you have the perfect stack size to x/jam the turn. Your shove would be for $215 after he bets $50 so it’s going to put him in a very uncomfortable spot with one pair.

For that very reason is why I prefer x/r flop -> shove turn. It’s a more believable story and you’ve got the perfect stack size to execute it and still have an +EV call off if he jams the flop himself.

At the same time, he is giving you a very attractive price to hit your 15-18 outer. It’s never a mistake to take the +EV call. I always feel rather dumb when I shove in a spot like this, get called and then and brick out when villain was giving me a ridiculously favorable price to draw.

It adds a lot of variance to your results playing that way and if you’re constantly running into top of ranges and bricking out it gets expensive quick. Pretty interesting spot though given we don’t quite know if we have FE or not.

Definitely x/r the flop here. We can fold out AQ/AK and we have a lot of equity against JJ-QQ too.

IMO, the only way to play the hand is c/r all-in on the flop, or c/c-c/c. You have ~48% equity otf vs. QQ+ & you fold out AQ+. OTT, you're not so well off when it comes to an overlay going all-in. You have ~35% equity vs. QQ+ [holding no ] & you're putting ~32% of the money in the pot.

Or, am I missing something?

I did forgwt something-his whole calling range. 99+ AQcc and QJs. Then you only have 33% equity & you're putting almost 37% of the money in the pot on an all-in
