Villian - OMC in his 60's - tight passive player for the most part, doesnt play a lot of hands and would likely open limp versus open raise when folded to. Has at least $350.00. I have only played with him for approximately 2 hours. We only got into one hand heads up against each other before when he limped in the cutoff, I was in the big blind and had KK and raised to 15 and he calls. Flop was AJx with 2 diamonds. I bet. He called. Turn is a blank, we both checked. River is another blank, I checked and he checked behind showing K10 diamond. I win the small pot.

Hero - early 30s Asian male - playing tight as well. Have not played a lot of hands, mostly folding. Was able to build my stack up from $200 up to $380ish playing good hands and playing position.


On to the hand:

Hero is dealt As Kh. I have $380ish in front of me.

Preflop:
Villian in UTG+1 open raises to $10. The guy to my right calls and I decide to just call as well. There was one more caller in LP. Both blinds fold. ( I think this is the first time I have ever seen him open raise while we have been playing at this table)

Flop: ($43) Kd 4s 7c

Villian bets $10. Guy to my right folds. I decide to raise to $30 to see if I can take it down now. LP folds and Villian calls my reraise. (Warning bells )

Turn: ($103) Ah

Villian decides to bets out $35. I just call. ( I am now either ranging him literally on AA-KK or AK at this point)

River: ($173) 9d

Villian thinks about it and then puts out a bet of $40. What does Hero do????

Well, I certainly wouldn't fold. This is indeed more aggression than exhibited in the previous hand you cited but it's not like betting 1/4 pot and calling a small raise are signs of massive strength. If you can't put any other hands in his range then just call, but let's think about where you come up with that range.

Why would you raise the flop vs. an OMC EP raise and c-bet? The worst hand he should show up with here is KQs (and that's a stretch) so all you are accomplishing is folding out worse and getting called by same/better.

OP, you said you want to take it down now, why is that? What does he have that he's folding that we can't let just carry on betting into us? Flop is bone dry, you are WA/WB, just call.

AP I call down. If villain has a set, not betting harder into us is atrocious. Hand looks more like AQ to me.

Result: After tanking for approximately 30 seconds because I had a feeling he may show up with a set ( AA, KK) , I called due to the pot odds and he shows AA as I expected. Was a little upset with myself for not going with my read hence the real reason why I posted this.

Vil $40 on the river is the worst action in this hand, by like, miles. Raising the flop is not good. By OP description of Vil, never raising, and now he raises, in my mind, as I'm reading I put him on 3 hands exactly; QQ+, which is about 2% of his starting range, which sounds right.

So on flop, if he has QQ why chase him off? If he has the other 2 hands, you are burning money. Just call.

Turn changes nothing; it does not make your hand stronger. I could fold the river, I could fold the turn. Vil previous action, never raising, ever PF, like you say, should save you from paying him off.
