Game: 1-2
Villain: Older gentleman. Calls a lot of hands and calls a lot after flop with just A high.

Stacks: Villain about $40; Hero $120

Hero MP has AA

Two limpers, I make it $18 and get three callers.

Flop: A58
All checked (was this a mistake?)
Turn is a black Q. Villain moves AI for about $28.

Hero? Raise or call?

Why didn't you just shove flop? You have top set with $72-75 in the pot and $100 left.

Raise more preflop (we typically don't want 3 callers, although in cases where this sets up a ~PSB flop shove then it's not horrible).

Ship the flop. We have just a little over a PSB left and top set, we're committed. Even if someone flips up a flush we're almost getting the odds we need to boat/quad up by the river; otherwise, we're way ahead of everything else and shortstacks could easily get there stacks in with virtually nothing here.

as played raise turn, for the same reason you should bet the flop- to get value from hands like Kx, etc. that won't call if river bricks. Additionally, you might miss value from a hand like 85 if a 4th heart rolls on the turn, etc. I'd go like $40 on the flop (exploitably, and be more inclined to ship with a hand like KJ).

Pre is fine. Even $16 is fine. If we go to much more and we have an ambitious shortie with ~$40, we want the betting to remain open so we can do cool stuff.

Jam the flop. Reload and crush.

As I said I was wondering if it was a mistake to check the flop. Now I have confirmation.
