2/5
1 limp from EP. V from Lebanon drinking a mixed drink that just sat down w his buddy an orbit ago. They immediately start w table banter how were so tight. V makes it $20 in co ($500)
Hero (covers) makes it $65 w AsAh BTN. V calls HU.
Flop Q98ssc(135) V checks. Hero checks behind...
I was thinking I should bet for value because obv there's a ton worse that would call.
I'm sorta mad at myself because I started pshycing myself out thinking idk how to react to a check raise and Idk what Villain is capable of. He didn't seem too crazy or aggro just more like a typical station, but he only sat an orbit ago so I decided to check for pot control...
Is this a terrible fish move?
Turn (135) 9sss V checks. Hero decides to bet now $75 and V calls pretty quickly.
River (285) 3c V checks. Hero bets $125.
Thoughts on all streets please.

Not betting the flop is missing value against AQ, KQ, QJ, 1010, JJ but would open you up to a re-raise. Its worth getting put in that spot with a bet most of the time. Checking isn't a bad play because he might put you on AK and look you up on the turn, maybe even the river.

Betting the turn, especially with the nut flush draw, is optimal.

Betting the river is tough at this point. Depends on your read. $125 is a good size, $95-$110 is the sweet spot, I believe, for the hands mentioned above.

Was hoping to give you a full line check, but had some issues (head asploding) after you checked the flop. Do not check this flop - bet it for value, never ever fold.

Yeah, checking the flop is pretty bad imo. Like people said, best line is bet flop, ship turn.

As played, turn looks good, a bit small. You could bet 90-100.

I like betting river for value against Qx, maybe JJ, TT. Sizing is probably OK, could go a bit more. Anytime I'm value betting in a spot like this, and I decide on my sizing, I ask myself "do I think I can add $5 or $10 and get more value?" Usually the answer is yes.

Almost peed myself here.

Yeah op please bet flop. You will get tons of value from loose players on wet boards. Will they sometimes flop gin? Sure but you will more than make up for that with flop calls and pots that are built up allowing substantially larger turn bets.
