AA v. Whale raise multi-way AA v. Whale raise multi-way

Hi all,

2/5. V is whale who normally plays 1/3. Leads out with overcards, bottom pair, stuff like that. Plays almost every hand. Earlier he donked into me on 744 and I raised with TT and he folded. Later I raised KK and check/folded on 456r to $75 and whale call. I would have turned top set but whale flopped the nuts and would have stacked me on a non-board pairing river. I mentioned this and he said “I put you on a big pair.” So he at least has a basic understanding of raising ranges.

Hero raises black AA UTG to $15 and three callers including V. $450 effective.

Flop ($60): K-Q-9r. We bet $25, whale raises next to act in MP to $85. Folds to us.

Thanks,
DT

I would call and call down on every turn and river that don't bring 4 card straights.

Why are you opening to $15.

Sometimes I like to induce with big hands so I raise smaller. And $15 is not abnormally small at 2/5. Standard at most tables is probably $20, but I’m first to act and it’s not terrible if the pot is somewhat smaller playing OOP no?

You've got a sub 100 BB stack playing at a presumably soft table with whales. You should be looking to build the pot as big as possible as fast as possible, not playing balanced ranges with small sizing to counteract tough, aggressive players.

I think he meant that $15 sizing frequently generates light 3-bets in that game. In that case I do not mind his open sizing.

Check flop.

As played, off to the muck.

Why are you folding vs a whale?

The information given doesn’t suggest the whale raises light. It does say that the whale has a basic hand reading ability. We’re at the bottom of our range for betting into 3 people, and whale is raising us with two people left to act. Further, this board is terrible for our hand. Basically we’re dead meat.

Have you seen him raise light? Even if you have, this is a pretty ****ty spot to do so. Muck it and wait for a better hand, this guy will just give you his chips if you let him.

I shove against a guy with a range like his. I just feel like he's doing with so many hands that don't beat you.
