AA on monochrome flop

1/2

Hero: ($200) 30-40 yr old white guy. quiet. tighter than average.

Villain: ($200) mid 20's white kid. big muscles everywhere. quiet. has been seen bluffing flop MW when checked to IP.

preflop: 1 ep limper, Hero in MP makes it 12 with AhAc, Villain calls on BTN, everyone else folds.

flop ($25 after rake): 8d 5d 2d. Hero checks, Villain bets $12, hero calls

turn ($48 after rake): Qh. Hero checks, Villain bets $25, hero calls

river ($98): 2h. Hero checks, Villain bets $35, hero calls

thoughts on check/call, check/call, check/call here? standard? or should i have shown aggression somewhere?

bet $15-$17 flop, bet $30-$35 turn, and yes instead of checking, bet the river ~$60.

Re: AA on monochrome flop

I dont mind the c/c on the Flop. But I will bet out here often as well as the PF raiser, depending on my c-bet image. I do this since I would be doing it with the Ad anyway, but no harm in mixing it up.

I don't really want to give a free card to rags on the Turn here. So I bet out and fold to a shove. The Q is a very good card for you to bet at being the PF raiser and then you see what happens. This is a tough spot here since if he has a flush and thinks you are betting the AdXx he may shove .. he may also shove with a QdXx here too which makes folding the wrong choice sometimes.

It's tough being OOP here on River as well, but you may be inclined to bluff catch a non-diamond River by c/c here also.

You have to make up your mind on 'all' these moves before you act on the Flop. And being OOP makes it tougher since if you pause at all he may see it as weakness. These are unfortunate Flops with such a good holding AND also not really a reason to go broke either.

Early in a session I might be more inclined to call here and 'send a message' to the table that they better have the goods when I'm involved, but if you are on the tighter side (and the table already knows this) then it may be better to just fold it away and save the chips for later. GL

Grunch.

With a read that Villain is bluffy and will fire most of his draws when checked to, I actually don't hate this line. The fact that we don't have the Ad kinda makes me not mind playing this hand a bit slower. You basically also got the nut board run out for your hand besides boating. This should only be happening a rather small portion of the time though... I think your standard line here should look something like B/F flop, B/F turn, check/eval river.

Grunch

I'd bet the flop and go on from there.

Re: AA on monochrome flop

I do not like b/f line.

OOP against a V with a displayed propensity to steal, I think this passive line is a good way to maximize our winnings and minimize our losses. We never fold the best hand and we never pay off better to an inordinate amount. WP.

Re: AA on monochrome flop

interesting analysis. this is exactly why i chose the line i did, but i posted bc i wondered if i should have bet for value on any street.

if i can expect V to bluff when checked to, then i miss no value by check/calling. i give no free equity. i also don't risk being bluff raised off of my equity share of the pot. any of you b/f guys have thoughts on that line of reasoning?

Re: AA on monochrome flop

C/C flop is bad because your perceived 3-betting range is extremely weak at that point and you want to charge hands with hearts in them. Bet $17. At this SPR, folding to a flop raise is not an option if you think villain is likely to come over the top w/ higher overpairs and the NFD. (In which case, just get it in.)

Aggressive villain may be tempted to peel or float flop and try to steal turn when checked to. If you think this V would try to do this, a $17 flop bet would have sized you nicely to check/shove turn. Otherwise, a 1/2 psb is in order. (I lean to check/shove based on description.)

IMO your strong preflop betsizing makes the rest of this hand easy. Too bad if he flopped a set, but that is a very small part of his range.
