AA cracked. Should I have bet? Why? AA cracked. Should I have bet? Why?

1/2 NL @ Wild West in Atlantic city (At work I can't use the hand history converter to bear with me)

Stacks: Hero: $300 Villain: $400

Hands: Hero has AA in the straddle.

Preflop: Action folds around to SB (villain) who raises to $12, BB folds, Hero raises to $50. Villain calls.

Flop ($100 in pot): QT4 rainbow. Villain checks. Hero bets $50. Villain calls.

Turn ($200 in pot):9 offsuit. Villian checks. hero checks back.

River ($200 in pot): 8 Vilian bets $100. hero folds AA face up. Villain shows JJ.

1) On the turn, do I just jam since I have a pot sized bet?
2) What is his range after checking the turn? JJ-KK, QJ, KQ, and maybe QTs & JTs?? Does betting matter if he may call with tons of equity?
3) My range is QQ+ , AK and AQ mostly. Does it matter that I'm not balanced at a live 1/2 table?
Any comments would be appreciated.

I would have bet a little more on the flop (maybe $ 75) and shoved the turn.
(and he would have called and beat me cuz that's how I run )

Villains range is AQ/AK/JJ/QQ/1010, I doubt very much KJ/KQ is flatting 4x 3! But it's 1/2 so anything is possible.

I expect KK to ship preflop against straddle

I expect sets to flat this flop as it's fairly dry with just one straight draw possible. I expect sets to check raise all turns if you don't jam.

75-80 otf

9 Is a terrible card but once you bet 80 on the flop the decision is trivial to shove turn. Doubt villain is folding pair +open ender so you probably saved money.

I wouldn't fold face up, I don't want my opponents to know I'm capable of folding overpairs.
As played just muck quickly and let them think you had AK.

Villain probably flats your 3bet preflop a bit wider than normal because you're IP in the straddle and could therefore be making a move more frequently than if you had 3bet in MP vs an UTG open where a lot of players wait to act behind. Still I would not expect to see him show up with the offsuit Broadway hands below AQo very often.

I agree with stinkholepatrol that you can somewhat discount KK when V doesn't 4bet you preflop. So I think you face something like QQ-77 AQ+ BWs and a few SC when he flats your preflop 3bet.

After he flats flop and 9 turns I think you are beating:
6 combos AQ
3 combos KQs
3 combos QJs
Something less than 12 combos JJ/99
One or two combos ATs
3 combos KTs
3 combos JTs
Handful 88/77

You're crushed by:
4 combos KJs
6 combos QQ/TT
2 combos QTs
Maybe 99 occasionally

Villain probably struggles to fold his top pairs or his pair plus straight draws given low SPR so he may get it in on turn with 21 combos that are behind while he'll certainly GII with his 12 combos of 2-pair+

So with the SPR being so low I think you've just got to shove the turn. Expect to be behind about 1/3rd the time and be drawn out on a bit on the river but you'll win at showdown often enough or pick up the pot uncontested on the turn to show a profit here for sure.

That range is approximately the range that I came up with as I was analyzing. I think my flop bet could have been closer to 2/3rds pot since the same hands who call $50 are probably calling $65. So now the pot is bigger on the turn when I shove something like $185 into $230. That might mean less hero folds from hands that I have crushed on the turn like KQs, KQo, AQ,

Yeah, agreed - I'd go a bit bigger on the flop bet. QT4r is not a dry board so we don't need to go 1/2 pot or lower. Also in our favour lots of villain's will be putting us on tons of AK here and be very unwilling to fold any pair for a single flop bet but will ditch them if you keep betting the turn. Therefore the bigger flop bet gets more value from JJ-77 and TX as well as setting up a turn shove that gets more calls from QX.

Welcome to the forum, OP. Please don't include results in your title or in the thread (until discussion dies down). It biases advice. It's too late to edit it out of this one, but please keep it in mind for future threads.

Definitely don't (ever) fold face-up.

bigger flop and jam turn makes sense here. If you were deeper I think it's still a good idea to bet on the turn, but b/f. Disciplined fold on the river at least AP.

And don't fold face up as others have noted. It's tempting, especially when you pull off a big bluff, but unless you made a play that was completely out of character, don't show.

V would have called and outdrawn your a$$:

But Turn should be an all-in, that's what Matt would do!

bet $65 on flop, creating pot of $230 with $185 behind. Perfect sizing to jam turn

As others have said, given your stack depth, size up OTF so you can shove the turn. Checking the turn is criminal here as not only do you give a free shot to any hand that has a pair (so serious RIO for u), but river cards can come where you wont get any more value either (as an example, V is not calling a river bet with KQ on that board).

One thing you will see here from the good posters (Ava, Amana, johnny, c0rn, Minatorr and a lot of others) is how they manage their bet sizes to their stack in all situations. It is a critical skill to learn not only to maximize value on your good hands, but also to protect your stack when your hand is marginal.

I have gone back to playing online in order to work on this sizing. During live play sometimes it is more difficult
