Hi all,

1/3 MGM National Harbor. Hero is playing $150 after losing a medium-sized pot.

Straddle is on and hero is dealt AcAd in MP and makes it $26.

Straddle (MAWG with sunglasses, $1,000) 3! to $76. I had raised his straddle a few orbits ago. Hero flats for deception planning on GII most (hell, all) flops. Pot $156.

Flop: Qc-Jc-9d.

Villain puts us all in for remaining $75. So not my favorite flop for AA as two likely 3! hands (JJ, QQ) got there, KK has gutter, least likely 10-10 OESD, we block AcKc so that's good. Since he very likely can have KK here I call but not loving life.

Any problems?

Thanks,
DT

With what you have behind this should have gone in preflop. As played, sigh Call.

Yeah given your stack size there really is no meaningful analysis to be had here. Even with your 4 bet shove you're getting called almost everytime regardless. So flatting for deception is not really a thing here.

This is a pretty standard open in a straddled pot.

It's 1/3, not 1/2, so it's not 12x to begin with. This is a straddled pot too, so it's 1/3/6 which makes this about a 4.5x open which is very standard.

As for the hand itself, just GII pre. V 3! half your stack, there's no point in being deceptive or trappy. The chances of him putting $76 in and folding for $74 more are so slim. This is a slam dunk 4! jam. As played, still not even a decision, just put your chips in.

Just rip it in pre, he's not folding to a min raise but he might be able to fold some flops.

Lol just ship it in pre. He’s never folding.

The question we need to ask here is....

If he has 88 - KK and we flop an Ace and GII, can he fold?

The answer is yes. This is why it is better to GII preflop. Considering his range, there are quite a few flops that kill our action and we leave money on the table that he would have certainly given us preflop.

Ultimately, this is fancy play syndrome. Just GII and print $. GL

FWIW, you should always start the hand with whatever stack size you choose, not one that happens to be dictated by the fact you lost the previous hand. A simple "Dealer, I'll start the hand with $x" will do.

With just a $150 stack I don't think I'd go over $25 and would also be fine with just $20. Yeah, $26 might be more standarish in a 1/3 straddled pot, but we also have AA with just a $150 stack; we pretty much want as much action as we can get (even getting multiway action to a $20 bet is fine at this stack depth).

I ship it preflop. There is no way anyone puts in half their stack to fold, and yet a lot of those hands will manage to fold the flop if they whiff or see overs.

Obviously a sucky flop but we can't fold for this price.

If I was deeper I think a flat would be warranted since I would need to get away from certain flops (like this one) if he puts tons of pressure on me post-flop. With short stack, yeah jam was better. I was not thinking about my stack size. He ended up having the set of JJJ. Fml smh.

Reraise preflop and get it all in! I would do that 100% with your stack no question.
