Hi all,

2/5, V is loose pre, opened Q8dd and doesn’t like to fold I think. We’ve been in a couple pots together so we are battling.

V opens MP $20, hero SB AdAh $70, V calls. $450 eff.

Flop ($133): Q-5-6r. Hero bets $60 but dealer puts out the turn believing hero checked(?). Turn is 5. Floor says bet stands 5 will go back in deck. V calls.

Turn ($253): natural river, the 8, completing rainbow. Hero $160, V calls.

5 back in deck, river ($573) is 9. Probably the only card other than a Q I’d didn’t want to see. Hero only has $150 behind and is still beating all reasonable Qx.

Thanks,
DT

Bet $150.
You can't check fold.

Any reason you’re not going 4x+ in the SB dumbo? iirc you went the same sizing in the A10o hand. V’s odds to call here are really good and we’re not pushing FE as hard as we could be with our bluffs.

I’d bet/fold because V could go for thin value w/ worse if we check- since there’s very little behind . Also, V’s most likely hand given preflop action is Qx and a sticky 99s-JJs. I’m not sure this river is that bad for us in practice.

I’d be more concerned about a Q river and cards that give V two pair or a set more often like an A-10.

Edit: w/ only $150 behind, AI is the only sizing even if thin. This is why you bet 20-33% on the flop in 3-bet pots.

Yes, fat value w/ AA on a dry board is the name of the game or whatever people say but there are a lot of drawbacks to being exploitative that have nothing to do with balance or our opponents being sophisticated.

Such as being able to bet all our bluffs profitably and giving ourselves room to maneuver on future streets.

Spoiler:
Assuming V had the Q8dd here...

You've got a 1/4 PSB left dude. If he's got a 7 he's got a 7.

Loose dude who doesn’t fold to 3 bets + OOP = too small on the three bet. $80 to go.

AP Jam river for thin value. He will have enough QT stuff to call off with

I normally 4x vs loose villains, lots of villain actually. When OOP I often 5x to compensate so I'd slide out a cool red stack. Anyway just ship river, not like you're folding and he's never checking back a straight. Would be a disaster to let him off the hook with Q2 or something.

Yeah seems like maybe a tad larger pre (my default tbh, I just didn't want to lose this V in particular with a larger sizing with AA).

Results

Jammed river, V beat me into the pot with 98ss for two pair. Reg next to him says, "You know you're a fish, right?" Lol! Then I was called for omaha. Life goes on.
