Had an interesting (to me LOL) hand at the local casino earlier this week.

1/2 Limited Buyin $40 max (yes, Commerce) very first hand. Tuesday afternoon, lots of chat at the table, nobody is looking or acting unhappy

Reads as of immediately sitting down, all I had to go on at the time. Note that all these dudes had to buy in for $40 (you can rebuy $60 if you get felted) so many of them have been sitting there for a while and the ones with stacks of $100 plus - meaning all of them - have recently won more hands than they have lost. Some are probably in for more than their present stack but LOL first hand, who knows which is which just yet.

Seat 1: ($100, MAWG, advance read from my college buddy from 1966-1968 (two old farts we are but he looks older) already seated welcomes me to the game by mentioning that Seat 1 is one of the more active participants in the festivities that day have not seen him in years, that's why I sat down)

Seat 2: ($200, no particular distinguishing characteristics other than his ample (for this game) stack - meaning "I forgot" his initial impression on me, it was my first hand and the dealer blocked my view <smile>

Seat 3: ($100, my buddy, classical nit style, no semi-bluffs and no steals)

Seat 4: ($250, young wanna be pro I have played with before, tight but always raises when he come in, not as tight as Seat 3) he is the button

Seat 5: ($200, MAWG) he is the small blind

Seat 6: ($250, 30-40 yrs old HG, says "welcome" as I sit down, he is the big blind)

Seat 7: ($300, the small blind, MAAG, my buddy included him in the "action threesome" as I was sitting down - he is UTG

Seat 8: ($450, MA Iranian guy, very friendly) he is UTG+1, the third member of the "action threesome"

Seat 9: ($40 LOL, yours truly UTG +2) "welcome to the game" with 88 first hand, I am still stacking my pitiful grubstake but glad to be there nonetheless

Seat 1: ($250, same lack of initial reads as Seat 2 for the same reason)

OTTH:

Seat 7 UTG makes it 10 to go

Seat 8 UTG+1 snap calls

I contemplate my pocket 8's and say "time". Nobody behind me preloads a fold, picks up calling chips, or does anything worthy of note.

Seat 7 likes his cards enough to raise, and Seat 8 loses no time in getting his ten bucks in there. Don't know these guys but surely they BOTH have KJ+, AT+ or medium pockets plus?

What I did and how it turned out is not the point of my posting here.

But this is: other than find somewhere else to play where you can sit down with more than 20 bb, what's your play and why? Kindly edify me?
