Re: 8 way

Oh God what a stupid spot.....tbh.....as I have only completed from sb I am not getting involved in this massacre. We could be in horrible shape and drawing almost dead to sets here, we could be against a made straight, at best we are against a combo draw that will have good equity against us. I feel like it's probably a marginal +eV call long term here, but it's so marginal I'd rather just fold and look for a better spot as losing here is going to make sick when I could have folded for $3

Re: 8 way

You should fold this out of the SB. Stacks are not deep enough to be in this hand with low suited connectors OOP.

After the bet and shove I would fold but I don't think shoving is terrible because of the odds. It isn't a good situation but you have to put villains on a stupid combinations before you are way ahead and you can be crushed by a flopped set/straight. There are likely combos of hands where you are getting odds because the pot is already so bloated but even then you are mostly a little less then 50/50 to win and just banking on more then doubling up when you do. When you are behind you are at 20% or less to win.

Re: 8 way

Even though we are getting good preflop odds, I think I'd sigh fold due to poor RIO postflop (our flush can be easily outflushed, our straight out-straighted, our trips out tripped, our pairs out two paired, etc.).

With this many people, I'm assuming someone will bet something, so I also check planning to probably shove to anything but crazy action from nits. Having said that, all we beat to this action is pair + draw who obviously isn't expecting the UTG raiser to fold his overpair. Might actually be able to find a nit fold here, but really read dependent.

Re: 8 way

Welcome to the forum, OP. Did I read that correctly that UTG opened for $20? If so, fold pre. If it was just a limp, I don't hate the call.

Any reads on UTG and/or LP? I'm going to assume that it's an UTG raise, and pot is $160-ish. If that is wrong, please correct me. How much did LP shove for? How much does UTG have?

I presume that UTG has an overpair, or maybe occasionally AdKd. LP's shove sure looks like a flopped straight or set trying to price out a FD, though there could be some pair+draw, or combo draw combos in there as well. If we give him a range of 66-44,Ah7h,9h8h,9h7h,87s,76s,87o, you have about 23% equity, and need to fold unless LP is pretty short.

Re: 8 way

Fold pre. 45s is a sexy hand, but you gotta fold it from the blinds.

As played, I probably ride the variance train and pile it in. This is one of those spots where if the board was rainbow, then I'd fold. But since there is a FD on board, I'd cram it in.

I know that you didn't provide any reads (maybe you don't have any), but does LP seem like the kind of guy who might over play an OP on this board? Could he go crazy with 99/TT/JJ? Is he the kind of guy to ship KhJh? Cuz he has two overs and a FD?

Jam it in and be prepared to re-load.

Re: 8 way

Definitely a call. You're way ahead of UTG's range. He opened huge from early position, so he's unlikely to have 78. He's weighted towards overpairs, which you beat, and you block his sets.

LP can have both flush draws and straight draws. You block his sets too and you're not drawing dead against his made straights.

A lot of posters have said that you should fold preflop. I disagree. The odds are too good after six callers and you have a hand that can flop big.

I don't agree with this range. I put 77 in as well as 45s, 65s, and Ah2-8 and got us to 38%.

Re: 8 way

A lot of it comes down to reads on LP. EP raiser is playing his hand like an obvious face up overpair, and with what looks to be fairly shortish stacks, LP should be aware that it's unlikely there is much FE here. Course, it's also possible LP is aware of this but in the end has a good draw and just shrug shoves cuz, like, what else is he going to do?
