Looking for some thoughts on a cbet range in the following spot, maybe preflop range as well.

V is very new to the table, has sat down with ~$150 in a $1/$3 on a Tuesday night, 30 something island-nation looking dude I haven't played with before. Hero is an early-20s white guy.

Folds to V on the BTN who limps, Hero (covers V) raises to $16 from the SB, BB folds, V calls.

Flop: 678r ($33)

Cbet range?

Another Q - If action proceeds as: Hero checks, V bets $20, what's your continuing range?

I recommend FLOPZILLA and HOLDEQ for this type of work. Plug in your range and board texture and see what kind of hands you should be cbetting with or cc/cf.

This is live however, so you always need to make adjustments. EG - If vil is very passive, you can cbet a higher % of your range to include gutshots and overcards.

In that spot Im probably Cbetting close to 100%. Anyone who is passive enough to open limp the button is not very likely to bluff or semi bluff raise this flop. Ill take my chances and fire away.

I would only check if I raised with something like KQs where I missed the flop and I'm losing to ace high and even then I would c-bet sometimes. Everything else worth raising is worth a c-bet in this situation. I wouldn't have a check/call range at all, if I check I'm folding to any bet.

A lot of this is based on having no read on villain at all. Once you check the flop you have no idea what villain's betting range is and it varies widely here. With a better a read I might check some made hands, probably c-bet less and have some check/calling hands.

I feel like we don't have a lot of value on these types of boards - maybe I should be including weaker SCs and suited 1-gappers in my range preflop in these spots so I can connect better with these lower flops.

(As an aside, Matthew Janda in Applications of No Limit Hold'em makes the interesting point that since these flops with the highest card being, eg, 8, are far less common than eg K high flops, we can construct ranges that connect much better with the latter and that's not a problem)

As such I don't feel that C-betting this type of board with a very high frequency makes much sense; the overpairs we have for example aren't comfortable going for three streets.

My thinking is that checking most of your range and then having a check-call range is better. I don't like the idea of some better Vs being able to take the pot away 100% when we check.

Any thoughts?

I'm betting 66-TT, T9s, 87s, 76s, and that's about it.

Are you raising T9s, 87s and 76s from the SB?
