Hi all,

1/3. V1 is a loose rec ss player who keeps min-buying. V2 is a bad rec deepstack MAWG. Earlier V2 4! jammed a T-5-8-3cc for $450 HU with 77 after he donked twice and got min-raised ott by the pfr and got snapped off by a set of TT. He commented that he thought V had AK.

Hero limps 5s5h EP at this passive table and there are four more players including V2 in BB (covers) and V1 in SB ($100).

Flop ($12): 3-5-6dd. Hero $11, two callers (both short), V1 $30, V2 cold calls, hero min-raises to $50 anticipating V1 to jam which would reopen the action and enable hero to GII. Folds to V1 who jams $100, V2 calls again. As planned hero re-jams $550. I jammed expecting V2 to call with all his draws and pairs plus draws here so in case V1 already has a straight I win a nice side pot.

Thanks,
DT

It's always nice when the shorties do what you hope. Looks good

Is there a question in this, or just BBV?

Haha no I seriously wanted to know if anyone thought I misplayed this. Like, half expecting someone to chime in with, “BB has a straight, bro.” When you’ve been running bad you start to second-guess yourself a lot in spots that once were pretty clear.

That's fine. Keep in mind that you have 8 outs on the turn and 10 outs on the river if you miss the turn against a straight. Wouldn't even think twice about doing anything different.

I'm not convinced small pairs are profitable OOP, even at mostly passive tables, so I just fold preflop now. But if you have guys punting 150bbs with middle pair, yeah, more reason to attempt to get into a pot for cheap.

I'm fine with the flop. I don't know results (although posting bias gives me a pretty good guess as to what is likely going on), but this is kinda why I don't think small pairs are all they are cracked up to be. They have a heckuva lotta RIO, especially against players with half a clue / MUBSy (which, admittedly, V2 likely ain't). ETA: Also just realized we're $550 deep. Again, against wildcard V2 and shortstack punter V1 this might be / probably is fine; but against your general poker population nowadays, if (for example) 3 people are fine getting in stacks this deep on this flop in a limped pot, you're mostly in 3rd place.

Yup. I think people forget this a lot. Even against a made straight and flush on a board, you still have good equity.

I don't think I've ever folded a set on the flop.

hand is well played. I understand the table is passive, i still think RFI pre is better than the limp though.
