so much this.

why did raise pre with such a weak hand when you knew that you were very likely to get 3! by the maniac?

you know that he is going to raise pre, so just flat the raise and get to see a flop getting like four or five to one on your money?

It's not just a coin flip. You guys can't do better a coin flip most of the time anyway but we're way ahead of his range if he's wide enough to have T7o and J3o in these spots. Can't just wait for super easy spots when there are 8 other people trying to get his stacks too. You could also argue to discount the top of his range x%

We can't do better than a ~coinflip overlimping the world and purely setmining in position?

I mean I've nitted my game up to the point where I don't even think setmining is profitable in a lotta spots at most tables (hence why I'm now dumping 55 in EP), but this seems like one of those rare spots where setmining is going to be very profitable (and much better than anything remotely close to a coinflip).

But isn’t set mining a stupid limped pot in a 1/3 game clearly a profitable spot to be in? We have a bunch of fish that are going to see the flop when we hit.

FWIW those 8 other people won’t have a clue on how to get his stack and they won’t be trying very hard because they are 1/3 players. The ones that try will probably nit it up even more against him and wait for aces.

Even fish know not to get stacked in limped pots minus coolers.

He doesn't need to stack someone to make a $3 overlimp fairly profitable, no? He's already getting close to the immediate odds he needs, and if he just gets a single person to put in a PSB on the flop he's probably ekeing out a profit, let alone if any other money goes in.

For the most part I'm on board that there's not nearly as many profitable setmining spots as there once was, but I would consider this spot here as one.
