I played an unconventional hand last night, so interested to hear your opinions.

Villain/BTN is a PLO regular who is playing HE while waiting for the PLO game to kick off. He is fairly competent, probably not a top hold'em player but certainly decent. Not overly aggressive overall, but no nit either. Positionally aware, typically raises a wide range from the BTN. Stack is ~1000.

Hero/BB, has a TAG/grinder/reg image. Doubled up early in a cooler vs the straddle when we both flopped a set in a 4bet pot. Stack 2500.

Straddle/UTG: absolute crusher, very aggressive postflop, hate having him on my direct left.

OTTH:
UTG straddles to 10.
Folds to Villain/BTN
Villain/BTN does not realize there is a straddle on and raises to 15. Dealer announces that it isn't a full raise and rules it as a call.
SB folds.
Hero/BB looks down at 2 red 8's.

This is already a weird spot. If BTN made a regular raise i would almost always flatcall to setmine/keep SPR big/not get 4bet off the hand.
However this ruled call gives me an opportunity to fold out some of that wide BTN range and also fold out the straddle a high percentage of the time, whilst keeping stacks relatively deep, so....

Hero raises to 50.
Straddle folds.
Villain/BTN calls.

Thoughts?

Flop (110):
T94

Check, check.

Bad flop for my hand and for my range, good flop for his range, so check?

Turn (110):
T94 J

Hero bets 60, Villain/btn raises to 170.
Hero calls.
I probably got a bit blindsided by turning the OESFD, this should probably be a x/call.

Having said that, my range looks/is capped and his line doesn't make that much sense. He's probably betting most of his flushdraws on the flop, as well as sets. He has some 2pair and obviously KQ , but also a lot of Ax or perhaps some Q, imo

River (450):
T94 J 2

Hero checks.
Villain bets 370.
Hero...??

He has a relatively small value range and all his semibluffs missed. On the other hand, my hand is a mediocre bluffcatcher and near the bottom of my distribution. Anybody feel like herocalling?

As always, feedback on all decisions is welcomed and i definitely went a bit of the rails in this hand, so dont hold back . Thanks in advance.

Pre is fine, and so is flop. My issue is the turn. Your reasoning for checking flop should still hold true (if not magnified) OTT. You have 4th pair to the board and some weak draws. I see no reason to start building this pot OOP when V can put you in a tough spot with a raise. As played I'd just fold to the turn raise, but I would have continued to check OTT, calling a reasonable bet and evaluating river. Now OTR, I'm also folding.

I might be wrong but on the turn you might want to consider folding because your straight draw isn't very good and your flush draw is very bad, so you could almost dead.

I couldn't imagine calling that river bet and that being a profitable play

Pre and flopgood

Turn should be another check for same reasoning as flop to let him stab.

Vs turn raise it’s kinda weird, guess we should just fold.

Otr we should have some flushes in our range and KQ so i dont really mind letting this go.

Pre is good, although I prefer $60. You mention that you would've flatted his intended 3x btn open from bb … but with a tough/aggro crusher in straddle I think 3-betting is much better.

Intention to c/c flop is good. Turn I prefer to check again with intention of calling.

As played it's easy to level ourselves here otr. I'd probably just sigh fold and wonder if villain was cooking up a scheme vs our somewhat capped range.
