5/5$ table about 2 hours old Friday night; $400 min / $1,000 max

Hero: covers, I’m stuck a full buy-in when I got coolered but didn’t show on river; don’t think Villian noticed or even cares if he did notice, I’ve been pretty TAG, but again, V is total rec-fish and isn’t really paying attention.

V: $900, about 50yo white European guy, from previous sessions with this guy I’m 99% sure he is just a wealthy fish. He used to be a doctor and told me he sold his practice and now he is a part-time consultant. In terms of poker, he is just too loose pre with crap and no real plan during hands. Not clicking buttons every hand, but just plays some hands that make me scratch my head. He is very vocal that he dislikes quite tables with headphones and hoodies and seriousness...whenever I’m at a table with him we always chat it up.

OTTH

Folds to hero in MP1 who makes it $30 with AK - this is normal size in the game for an open. V calls to my direct left and we are heads up to flop.

Flop: J72 ($70)
Hero continues $40, V calls.

Turn: J72A ($150)
Hero bets $80...we block front-door NFD and hit a pretty damn good card OTT.
V raises to $200.

Hero?!

I would've bet $115 on the turn. Just flat here.

Bet more on turn. About 2/3 pot... Villain is not going to fold Jx here so get value from those hands. Also charges draws. As played, call turn and reevaluate rivers.

Bet more on flop. As played, flat and evaluate. We have outs vs. two pair. He might think his A is good -- or he's just having fun. The small turn bet looks a little weak.

Hero is uncapped and V leads turn. I’m not loving it.

I suppose he has two pair minimum. We’re getting 7-2 on a call here but I smell a set. I think this is entirely read-dependent. I can only find a fold here because we have flush blockers and this skews his range to sets.

I’d just fold turn unless you’ve seen him mess around with worse than one pair hands frequently ott/otf. Turn raises are usually very nutted and the A is extremely good for your range, not to mention your blockers are garbage and you have a lot of better hands to defend turn with. You have many combo draws/two pairs/sets to defend with and if you wished many AQ/AK that dont dbl block draws, so this is pretty low in your vbet range

"Ace on turn, I haz Ace, I raise". It wouldn't be the first (or even the 100th) time I've seen a LLSNL player with that exact philosophy.

Having said that ... I think the odds of a naked A are outweighed by the random 2 pairs he hit plus the sets he's been sitting on. Especially since "I haz set, I slowplay flop" is even more of a standard LLSNL philosophy.

Even if it's close, the problem with flatting is we've lost control over the hand, and V is very likely to bet the river IMO, because he's rich and betting is fun. If a blank falls and V leads for $500, are we really hero-calling with one pair? If not (and I wouldn't), we might as well fold now.
