800 effective.

Hero is new to the table and no one knows him. 20ish years old. I have a clean image haven't played many hands and haven't shown down anything.

Villain in BB unknown older guy watching his Ipad.

Hero raises mid position to 20 with qj. Only villain calls

Flop 1083 no draws

Villain checka I bet 30 he re raises to 85. I call cuz I always hit gutshots for the nuts.

Turn A
Well I missed my gutshot but got an extra draw and a good scare card.
Villain checks I bet 125 villain calls.

At this point villain looks scared and I feel like he almost folded and he called with a 10 maybe j9

River 8.

Villain checks, I cant win anymore so I have to bet cuz I'm too Invested. Hero bets 240.

Good bet or bad bet?

I like this reasoning here! Perhaps you should bet your watch, some gold rings and stuff too everytime you end up on the river trying to bluff.

That said I don't mind this as a spot to bluff. I obviously don't like your flop float without reads.

I would bet larger on turn and checkback the river. He can call with J9 and we win. If he calls a larger turn bet, then there is a snake in the woodpile and im done.

As it is, he could have gotten stubborn with a Tx and now we are in wonderland, and could be slowplaying AT as well so we are in a tuff spot. Bang the turn big to maybe 165-170 so you know its either a stubborn draw or a real solid hand and will know what to do better on river.

This is really the key here. Whenever I bluff the turn and get called im looking to follow it up on the river. If you pick up something like this you need to go with it. Good job.

I think you need to make it more on the river. An unknown older guy just might call a 1/2 pot size bet with one pair since the 8 isn't likely to change anything.

If I bet river I am betting bigger, like 350. I don't think I really like a bluff here because I don't think V is folding a 10 and the river card is a brick so I think if V calls the turn he is calling the river. I think V has something like KT QT JT a lot.

Yeah I think JJ is possible but I think V is raising QQ from the BB. (fwiw I don't think he is folding either otr)

i like it. if you do float the flop with a hand like that regularly, you have to have a backup plan the times you do miss (which will be most times).

I assume you were joking about hitting your gut shot and getting paid off.

Because nits don't pay you off. They sometimes fold to a big bet on a scary turn or river.

Not all of them do. If he is the sorta guy that waited all night to get AA, he plans to trap you with it, and he never folds them ever, then bluffing is foolhardy.

Your plan in general against this guy is to cbet him a lot. He will fold a lot more often than he will check raise you. This is a money machine. Use it until you have a better idea of what it takes to get him to fold his 1p hands.

Basically, a little early in the game for this kind of tomfoolery, as much as I love your plan.

i like it just fine. maybe a little bigger on the turn, definitley the rest of your chips on the river. The only question is if he would have played T8 this way.
