I’m playing £1.4k, opponent covers.
Opponent is very active & aggro in general.
UTG+2 opens to £20
I defend Q8 in the BB
Flop : K64 [£45]
I check call £20
Turn : 9 [£85]
Check check
River : Q [£85]
I lead £55 and get snap raised to £300...

Thoughts?

Fold preflop, Q8s isn't worth defending.

Flop and turn are OK. Without specific history with this villain it's a call. It's not a high value situation but if villain is active and aggro he should have enough worse hands and bluffs in his range.

Have to call river raise as V has a lot of other things in his range that we beat, but never put 280 blinds at risk OOP in a raised pot with Q8s.

Snap call river ✅
Lose to A2

Was just interested in people's opinions on what to do v river raise.

Genuinely surprised at the fold pre comments. Am I wrong in thinking that being 280bb deep is more of a reason to call pre than to fold??

Deep stacks are a reason to call with a wider range when you have position but even with position Q8s wouldn't be good enough.

The problem you have getting paid when you do hit, the number of ways you can hit the second best hand and the number of hands you are just going to fold on the flop make it unprofitable. Being OOP make all of those worse and limit your ability to bluff opponents.

This is a good, albeit brief, discussion. Can anyone point me to a thread that discusses appropriate ranges for defending your BB. I have to admit I see myself making the same mistakes as the OP.

And yes, once you're at the river with only 1 villain, in that scenario, I think you have to call (and then puke when he turns over Ac2c).

being super deep doesn't make Q8s play better, because it is super hard to make a hand that you are going to want to play for stacks with when you have Q8s.
