So as soon as I walked into the poker room I caught a rather pungent odor. It was the familiar smell of fish and I found myself right in the middle of a fish market, and let me tell you it looked like some delicious eating. So I sat down and within the first few hands I received pocket queens. I raised up my ladies and had one caller. Long story short, the flop gave me trip queens and I raised again, this time some random donk shoved on me and I called and doubled up. To my delight the donk had flopped two pair. Total donk move to shove with only two pair but I can't say I wasn't pleased with my early winnings. If the fish are biting sometimes you have no choice but to slap on some bait and reel a few in. If you don't eat the fish someone else will get fat off the fish meat.

Another notable hand happened a few hours later after I put in some pretty intensive grinding. Some donk raised it up to 15 and I thought he most likely had a high pocket pair, and I was leaving soon so I didn't really want to tango. I had grinded my way into some winnings and was in no mood to start spewing chips everywhere. At this point the fish were in a frenzy all trying to accumulate their share of winnings before the night was through. Anyway, this particular donk was playing real tight so naturally I assumed he had at the very least pocket 10s. Betting with less seemed out of character for a donk of such lowly caliber. I'm talking grade A 100% USDA approved DONK here. When I first saw him at the table I decided to grab a set of hamburger buns and have myself a donkey burger well done...metaphorically speaking of course. Anyway, so I'm facing a raise of 15 and look down to have pocket 9s. I throw these 9's into the muck so fast it would make your head spin. No need to be dominated by a higher over pair by some nit. Well I look down and start skipping through tracks on my iPod shuffle, next thing I know I look up and to my shock I see two 9's had come out on the flop. Quads baby, quads! I was mad as Mikhail Prokhorov after acquiring the 3rd pick in the NBA draft. To really top things off the superdonk that bet the 15 preflop throws out another bet of like 80 and the one or two callers of his original 15 dollar bet snap fold. Ready for the big kicker? Turns out he was on a straight flush draw. I flopped quads. He hits his straight flush and that's the badbeat jackpot. If he doesn't hit his straight flush I still probably devistate the donks chip stack by reraising him.

So there you have it fellas. I could've been guaranteed a few hundred and had the chance of a lifetime at the 50,000 badbeat jackpot. Never folding 9's to a 5x big blind bet again after that little incident. Anyone understand where I was coming from folding in that situation? This guy was donk through and through and was just sitting there all day waiting to only play top pairs so I figured I was dominated. Anyway, just sharing my experience. Good luck to all and happy donk hunting!

I would call to try and hit a set and stack him. What were the effective stacks?
05-24-2010 , 05:34 PM
Sounds like you have a lot of fancy names for donks but not much knowledge of poker.
05-24-2010 , 05:39 PM
I had about $140 or $150 and I believe he had me covered. It was fairly close but I would put him at about $180 or $190. Oh and another little tidbit was that there was a special going on Saturday nights where quads payout $200. I don't know if that would influence my play but just something to take into consideration.

And mcgiva, thanks for the comment but I'm a consistent winner at live poker so you, as a poster, have lost all credibility.

Do the dishes. Good fold not full stacked though.
05-24-2010 , 05:48 PM
At $150 prob a good fold based on trying to hit a set. But if you think he could have AK/AQ/broadway cards and misses you could take him off the hand. Many different ways to play it.

You can't let the BBJ influence your play, you will bleed chips all over the place. Its unfortuante that this was the result though.

Wow... so much information yet so little. Lol at the donk this donk that. I def. agree with bd1, even if u have him on overs a call here is mandatory. If u miss c/f if u hit set or in this rare case quads u stack him.

Thanks for your responses guys. Hindsight is always 20/20 but at the time I felt like folding was the right play. Another piece of information, he was first to act and so at the time I didn't think he would bet out of position without at least a high pocket pair. Maybe AK or AQ but even then he most likely c-bets after the flop and depending on the flop I'll be forced to fold. Just was trying to minimize my losses, but it turned out to be a play that has haunted me the last couple of days.

What did you buy in for $70?

Maybe you saw some donk in the mirror in the bathroom?

You have no respect for any player at your table?

How much are you up this year, $140?

Get real!
05-24-2010 , 07:57 PM
I bought in for $160. I doubled up early then started to spew chips everywhere so I tightened up and that's why I didn't call with the pocket 9's. And I just call em as I see em. How much are you up this year if you don't mind me asking? Or am I assuming too much by even assuming you're up at all?

Yeah I guess it was an easy call. That particular donk was playing tight all night so I had to respect him. But that was my problem. The second you start to respect a donk they've already won.

BBV4l?? What are you talking about? Sorry, I don't speak donk. I notice you are fluent though. I took it for a couple years in high school as a second language but just know the basics. I can count to ten, name some colors, etc. but when it comes to conversing in donk it's difficult. Maybe I just don't speak your particular dialect. I'll look it up on babelfish.com and see if I can communicate with you through the use of a translation service. Thanks for your input!

Well I plan on playing more often, only live poker. So I'll be using this thread to update my success and let everyone know any big hands I'm involved in. Thanks again for all your input, I appreciate it

Op is a ridic troll. Move on to the next topic. Nothing of interest here.
05-25-2010 , 12:10 AM
I'm not a troll, I promise you both hands really happened. I may be new to the forum but both hands happened as I described, just terrible luck on the second one.

And the poker room was full of donks because they had a 100k giveaway earlier so there was a lot of new players that were just drawn to the giveaway.

Where is this poker room located in the middle of a fish market?
Do the guys behind the counter throw fish when you order? I saw that on teevee once, I think it was in Washington or something. They got a card room?
05-25-2010 , 11:34 AM
So you think a guy playing tight in a live game is the super donk of the table, I don't trust your judegment very much
