What it mostly accomplishes over calling is shutting out equity when they're ahead and not losing value when you suck out against a better hand.

Not that I'm at all adamant that shoving is correct there, but I just don't see how calling is any better. IOW, if his range is so strong we can't shove here, then there's a good chance a fold is better than both.
I don’t think Hero raising the turn would be a very good example of range merging. Range merging is when it looks like your hand is polarized and you bet or raise with the intention of getting a better hand to fold or a worse hand to call. Firstly, if Hero raises the turn he pretty much never has air in his range. Secondly, if Hero raises the turn V never folds a better hand. A 1/2 V is never folding AQ, flushes, or a full house in this hand. Thirdly, a tight V in EP is never calling a turn raise with a worse hand than KQ.

I agree raising turn is not a range merge. Also villain probably never calls with worse. The more I think about this hand is weird because villain probably doesn't barrel with worse either. Against a pretty passive villain I will eat crow and say this is a fold.

Sorry guys I mis-typed the river...it was a brick but did not pair the board...it was set over set and he checked river because he is a pretty passive guy and already got 2 street out of me...I am just wondering now if maybe he checked because he was afraid of the flush...but that doesn't explain his big turn bet...I dunno but this hand is stuck in my craw...

set over set? that’s not possible.....do you mean you both had trip Q’s and he had the bigger kicker?
