No read on table, just sat down.

OTTH

Hero has stack of ~500. Looks down at AJhh in UTG+2. Opens to 20. V1 in MP calls, V2 calls in CO, V3 completes in BB.

Flop ($80): A 9 3

V3 in BB checks. Hero checks.

Thought was that I'm not sure what value I can get here. Maybe from TT - JJ, and smaller Ax? This is the main spot I'm wondering about. Are the above combos enough for me to bet here? The only thought is that since it's multi-way maybe I should bet but I'm really not sure.

I'll continue the hand since it's a bit interesting.

V1 in MP checks. V2 in CO checks.

Turn ($80): 6

V3 in BB checks. Hero bets 50 to charge draws and start getting value. V1 MP folds. V2 in CO calls. V3 folds.

River ($180): 9

Hero bets 100. V2 shoves for 250 more.

Hero?

Snap fold. I didn’t even read your explanation as to why you checked the flop but you completely butchered this hand...The best players will make $50 ph at $2/$5 there’s $60 & change of dead money for you to win in the middle, this is a pretty standard Cbet.

Heads up you could consider a flop check sometimes. You would be targeting villains who mostly have air on such a dry flop but will get sticky/bluffy when the flop is checked. Even then you should be betting this > 90% of the time.

Multiway you need a stronger hand to check. With 3 opponents AA would be the only obvious checking hand and then only because this is a super dry board. It's too easy for somebody to draw out on you with random hands like 98/53s/66. These hands individually have little equity but as a group there is a reasonable chance somebody beats you. And when it does happen you will be flying blind.

As played this is an easy fold both back door flushes and any 9X beat you. It's possible he is bluffing after you check flop but unlikely.

I think you can get fancy after a couple of hours at the table and a better sense of your Vs. After just sitting down, why not just bet the flop?

AP: V can have some bluffs here. The 9s is just a perfect bluff card. Of course readless, H has no idea how to react here. Getting 2-1, it’s very close. Can you tell us anything about the V in question?

Bet this flop. There are 3 other players in this hand so there are plenty of Ax, PP, T9s type hands you can get called by. As played you can only beat a bluff and I'm not really sure what bluffs V would have here so I fold.

You should bet flop because the hand is multi-way, and AX hands make-up a large portion of non-pair hands that will call a pre-flop raise.
