578 hours, check.

Had fun, check.

Won just over $5K. Second worst yearly result in 8 recreational years of playing 1/3 NL, but it still qualifies as a win, so check.

Poker goals are the same for 2018, and I expect I'll crush them again.

100 hours working through my future direction/opportunities
xx Client Meetings
xx Candidate Interviews

Health

at least...
200 days under 86kg
180 alcohol free days
200 exercise days
120 times in the ocean
30 Bar Dips and then 20 Pull Ups in 1 set

less than 10 drug taking occasions

Poker

at least...
350 hours of live poker
120 hours of off table formal 'study'
100 hours of online play

Miserably failed all my business goals - had a worse sustained period of run bad in business this year then I ever thought possible. Was so brutal that it took a significant mental health toll at times. Only made 39% of what I made in 2016 despite working harder and smarter. For the first time in 13 years, I didn’t cover the costs of running my family - insert sad face.

I found it basically impossible to think about the future or to do the extra stuff when trying desperately to grind out $$.

Hit or got very close on all my health goals - 20 days under on the weight goal, 10 under on alcohol and then fell a few reps short on the pull up/dip goal

Had a losing year at poker. Won $29ph at a combination of 2/3 and 2/5 over about 250 hours but the mtts were expensive.

Actually played pretty well and cashed in 5/20 mtts played but three of the 5 wins were satellites (to a 10k, a 5k and a 2.3k) where I wasn’t allowed to sell my ticket and the only other deep run I had was in a $440 where I won 7k - couldn’t find a good cash in the bigger events I played.

2018 goals to come on the 8th when I get out of holiday mode and start thinking about the year

1) win more money at poker than trooper97 in 2018

2) drop from 226 to 190 and under 10% body fat

3) do yoga 3-4 days per week

4) church once per week

5) see parents/family more

6) more weekend trips, fewer weeklong vacations!

Bruh, 10% body fat is basically impossible unless you’re currently at about 13 or sth.

Poker-wise it sounds like you're kicking ass at cash, and if I recall you had similar results last year (i.e. all your cash winnings obliterated by MTTs); any thoughts of simply dropping lol donkaMTTs and just doing cash?

Thanks for the business wishes - having both a business and a hobby that are exposed to such short and medium term variance swing is brutal but also helps me understand each other - when a deal falls through that was all but done, it kind of helps to think that I just lost to a four outer or whatever

re poker, I’m still chasing the mtt pot of gold and I really enjoy them to be honest. My life situation is comfortable so I’m not using poker to make money in most senses and really, while taking 5 or 10k out each year would of course allow me to buy some cool stuff, I’d rather reinvest poker profits in shot taking to try to make a big bink. I’ve been close to very good chunks of money 4 or 5 times now and I want to keep putting myself in those situations.

All of my study this year has been around mtts or general concepts applicable to both. It definitely isn’t nice busting a 2k or a 1500 or whatever but I look forward to them and I think I’m pretty good at them. Having said that, Vegas was brutal and I didn’t make second break of any of the ones I entered.

From a sustainable bankroll perspective I need to grind cash to rebuild - my poker bankroll is only about 13k right now, which clearly isn’t in any shape ‘rolled’ to play big mtts but as long as I have 10k as a cash roll I’ll take shots at satellites and local main events.

2018 Poker goals:
1. Play 100 hours @ 1/3 NL (married, 2 young kids, full time job, time to play is limited)
2. Profit $3K ($30/hr, 10BB/hr) - easier said than done but it's a goal
3. Become a more active member of 2+2 (have had an account since 2016 but haven't really contributed)

1. Walk my dogs at least 4 times / week.
2. Play 800 hrs of live poker with a $20/hr wr.
3. On Fri / Sat nights, always choose to go out with friends when the opportunities arise instead of playing poker.
4. Make time for my wife every week so she doesn't think I like poker more than her.
