20-30bb bi max. how to proceed once your stack grows? 20-30bb bi max. how to proceed once your stack grows?

in my area (los angeles) lots of places only let you buy in for 20bb-30bb. So assuming you had to grind it out with these conditions how would you do it. Would you just play short stack strategy then change tables once you hit a certain amount of BBs? would you stay and change your strategy depending on effective stacks? If so how would you play if your in a multiway pot with a short stack and medium/big stack?

I eventually want to be able to play deepstacked games or atleast 100bb games and not just push/fold scenarios. But this is where i have to start so any advice ?

Don't start at all. Wait till you have at least a 10BB max BI roll.

Welcome to the forum. You find a wealth of information on the basics of poker in the stickies at the top of the forum page. A lot of your questions will be answered in there.

Based on your question, I know you are on the beginning stages of your journey. That's fine, all are welcome here. Let me explain why.

Your stack size is irrelevant in a game unless you happen to have the smallest sized stack in play. What you want to be more concerned with is the effective stack size. If you have a 1000 BB stack and someone raises pf with a 20 BB stack size, you need to play based on the 20 BB stack size. It is less important if you raise first, but if the caller only has 20 BB, you have to play the flop as if there are only 20 BB in play total. For example, if you raise 5 BB pf with Axs and get called. After the drop, you could be playing for 8 BB and only 15 BB behind. If the villain shoves, you can't call with a draw.

TBH, I believe the small buy in games in CA are unbeatable. I think you'd learn more playing tournaments and save up enough to buy into the bigger games.
