2 set hands vs the same opponent, played differently 2 set hands vs the same opponent, played differently

So I had a few hands against the same opponent that I think I may have played wrongly based on my lines and also based on my image. I've only been at the table for 30 min or so when it comes to these hands. Villain is a 50 to 60 year old man is the only info.

First hand:
Hero 300$ 1/3 live just sat down no reads.

Hero 33 in HJ. 1 limper, hero limps, sb limp, bb check.

Flop 3s5s9c. Checks to hero, hero bets 7$, bb raise to 25$, hero?

Spoiler:
hero raise to 70$, villain folds. I think this was too much and I should go more like 60$. May be a fold pre? With bottom set we are vulnerable to top 2 pair and other hands this guy could have though with top 2 odds are he wont improve. Possible unmade hands like straight draws and flush draws will likely continue and we can build the pot in position on blanks.

Second hand:
Couple hands after same villain raises pre to 16$, hero 3bet with AK, he calls. End up hitting the K. At the end we chop since we both have AK.

Given these 2 hands. At this point although I haven't been at the table long I'm thinking this villain doesnt think I'm trying to bully him and when I raise I have a hand. So I want to try to play this to my advantage which is why I played it this way this time also because of other reasons which I'll explain later.

Last hand:
Hero with 99 in LJ. Villain is eff stack with 350$~.

Folds to mp who raises to 16$, hero calls, rest fold.

Flop 9c6c3s. Villain bets 25$, hero?

Try to avoid spoiler before giving advice please.

Spoiler:
hero calls.

Turn Tc. Villain checks, hero bets 50$ villain calls.

River As. Villain checks, hero bets 65$, villain calls. We take it down.

My thoughts: based on our past couple hands I was thinking I should try to balance a little bit here. Normally I'd probably 3bet this hand but the open pre is pretty big so prefer to set mine. This time we are heads up, flush draws are in his range but more than likely an overpair. We can raise and try to build the pot to play for stacks. Or we can flat here to keep his bluffs and worse hands in, hope for a blank, and if he bets raise the turn. Based on my image I thought this would be the most profitable line. I bet the river smallish for value. Which I think ended up working well considering his lines.
