Hi guys played an interesting hand the other day at a 2/5 NL table and would like some feedback on the way I played this hand.

Starting stacks:
Hero: $500
villain: $244

3 players limp including villain in MP, the SB completes, and Hero checks in the BB holding 4 8

The flop comes: 4 8 6 rainbow $25 in pot

SB checks. Hero bets $25. Villain and MP2 call.

The turn brings a blank J $100 in pot

Hero bets. Villain calls and MP2 folds.

The river brings a 7 $250 in pot

The river completes some straights and other 2 pair hands that could be in villain's range. I just sat down at the table "my third hand" so I have no info on villain. At this point Villain has $139 behind so would you just shove here or check fold if villain shoves?

I don't think worse hands will always call if you open shove. You can't really thin vb river bc a thin bet would be around 140.00 and that's all he has lol

I do think worse hands will fire if you check to him. I probably close my eyes and c/c. you're ahead of 8x and 7x (not 85 or 87), Jx (if he calls flop with overs). you block 4x. I think villian would play the bottom of his range just like the top when you check to him in this scenario
